@DeborahFW This. Came across the comment once that when you blame the victim, what you're actually saying is you hope he kills the next person instead. I don't want to be safe at the expense of someone else.
Following last night's @Oprah interview, we've put together some tips on how to talk to someone who may feel like they want to end their life.
We know that racial and family trauma can be triggering, and encourage anyone who feels affected to reach out for support.
Van, thank you for expressing the sorrow and relief that we all feel. My hope is that those who hoped for a different outcome will take a moment to empathize with the pain so many of us have felt over the past four years.
@revkatebottley @DrJessTaylor Have always hated nonsense like this - but especially since coming across the idea that if, by victim-blaming, they're saying rape is inevitable, they're essentially wishing rape on someone else. Stay home/wear different clothes so that the rapist rapes the other woman, not you.
@daveyjay1985 🤤 that's one thing I'm really missing while in lockdown! Fancy sushi & a catch up when things calm down a little? Hope you're well! 🥰
Matt Hancock is either unaware or unwilling to admit there are no black people in Boris Johnson’s cabinet.
It’s offensive to say it's OK because they've got "diversity of thought".
Especially at time of real pain for the black community. Do better. #BlackLivesMatter#Ridge
@misszing@JohnBarrowman Is it also worth mentioning/demanding action on the fact that BAME folk are disproportionately affected by fines under Covid legislation BAME people fined more than white population under coronavirus laws?

The fact that MLK has to exist at all should be considered. A black man who probably had other aspirations spent his LIFE trying to convince white people that black lives matter and was murdered for it.
It’s that time again. A mumpsimus (16th century) is someone who refuses to budge/insists that they are right, despite clear evidence that they are wrong. Plural: mumpsimuses.
@revkatebottley Once came across the (paraphrased) advice 'Saying you're not allowed to be sad because someone else has it worse is the same as saying you're not allowed to be happy because someone else has it better, which we don't do because it's nonsense'. I try to remind myself regularly.
I’ve had an arsehole living in my brain telling me to kill myself for a long time.
I’m safe, but wanted to let you know how I deal with it.
Sometimes, I just need somebody to tell me not to xx
Saverland v. Newton (1837) is a British court case in which a man who attempted to kiss a woman without consent had half his nose bitten off. The judge ruled that "when a man kisses a woman against her will, she is fully entitled to bite his nose off, if she so pleases."
