Once you have a more diverse senior team, it will be easier to set more diverse entry level hires up for success in recruitment and retention. #dls2022
Way more people need to take the approach just described in this keynote to hiring: building diversity from the top down rather than bottom up. Start by hiring senior level folks who are different than your homogeneous staff rather than entry level ones. #dls2022
Senior level folks have a proven track record (defends the hire to others), will appreciate the recognition, and will be more able to survive an environment where they are different than others (more power and skills, and knowing what they’re getting into). #dls2022
SAAFF would like to apologize to the Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community and also use this as a learning opportunity for the Asian American community. We no longer use terms like “AAPI” because it perpetuates harm in the continued conflation of NH/PI folks with Asians.
/1 Hi Lucy and your colleagues.
Your advocacy toolkit contains poorly sourced, contexted, and biased information on mental health during the pandemic/schooling.
And I have receipts too!

I know I'm super late, but I really enjoyed this article. Language is tough to cover, I have been working on not using as many ableist terms (which is a hard habit to undo) but it truly is a personal choice. Nice job @BitchMedia@sesmith@annaham360 !

“Until we vaccinate the global south – Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia – we’re going to have devastating variants” @PeterHotez, fresh off approval of his COVID vaccine in India and beyond, “hopefully this will help start filling the gap.” #Velshi https://t.co/tISUfCb52e
My sociological imagination expanded when I chose to READ ACROSS disciplinary boundaries & genres.
I'm ringing in '22 🎆 by giving props to 22 BRILLIANT #AsianAmerican#women political scientists, historians, health researchers, writers & creatives from whom I learn so much 🙏🏼🧵
ASAN will continue to fight for a world where everyone can make our own choices, regardless of how much support we may need. For more information on alternatives to guardianship like supported decision making, check out our toolkit here: https://t.co/DxOa0PxdvA (2/2)
Though actually in my family’s case, the story is interesting because my Chinese American family were (and still are) also farmers and actually bought my Japanese American family’s farm for a fair price. Though my parents didn’t know of this connection when they started dating!
It’s absolutely not an accident that most farmers are white. My Japanese American family were farmers…until they lost their farm because they were incarcerated in WWII because white farmers wanted to eliminate the competition: https://t.co/4LhWd8WYhh
@NYCTSubway Does this mean I can get on at Woodside and go to Jamaica and it will be cross-honored? Trying to figure out how to get to JFK from Sunnyside. Woodside isn’t listed but is between Penn Station and Jamaica, so just double checking.
