I am excited to announce that our book “Challenging Neoliberalism and Colonialism in Puerto Rico” is being offered an advance contract with @lsupress.

Yo I’m so glad I asked that Maurice Bishop question.💆🏾♀️ People often think Caribbean tourism is just about leisure, but entire neoliberal development models were imposed on small island nations to accommodate it. A 1979 State Dept memo worried that Grenada’s revolution would “scare off tourists.”
Bishop, meanwhile advanced an alternative vision of tourism rooted in sovereignty, where Caribbean nations control and benefit from their own natural assets rather than serving as playgrounds for foreign capital. Yet Bishop is rarely cited as a theorist in critical tourism studies.
That’s 1 issue Gabriel Rockhill raises: revolutionary leaders from the South are often treated as political actors to be studied (if that), but almost never as theorists to be read/engaged. The academy readily imports theory from the metropole while ignoring intellectual production emerging from anti-imperialist struggle.
There was a good showing of Black ppl at Hands Off Cuba protest yesterday. Nice to see as I’m usually the only 1 at antiwar rallies in Miami lol—but we showed UP for Cuba🇨🇺 like they showed up for us. Big up to Fidel! We aint 4get tryin to send medics to New Orleans after Katrina
¡Vamos a ganar!

Somos el poder popular! Vamos por el triunfo en primera vuelta! 🇨🇴
It's time for real leaders to stand up for Puerto Rico's decolonization and independence.
We're proud to endorse @CoriBush in her race to reclaim the MO-01 U.S. House seat. When she's back in Congress, we'll work together for the liberation of Puerto Ricans and of all people!
NOW: Massive rally in front of the US embassy in Havana, ready to defend Raúl Castro and the Cuban Revolution.
BT's @ldejesusreyes reports from Havana.
Democrats on the Senate foreign Relations committee only opposed Trump’s actions in Venezuela bc he “didnt fully remove the corrupt regime”—I’m all for legitimate criticism as I have given plenty times post Jan 3 Delcy govt, but when it slips into maximalist moral language, speculative dismissive framing that demoralizes Venezuelan ppl’s grassroots struggle, I view that as chauvinism giving more legitimacy to “fuller” regime change efforts by our own govt.
The trots in the Miami end blockade coalition are already using that language on Cuba while Miami’s office rains down indictments on Latin leaders like skittles..maybe we should protest THAT first
A bit more from my appearance on @WUCF_PBS_Jazz Global Perspectives this past weekend.
Support for Puerto Rico's independence is growing, and it's what Puerto Rican youth want for their future.
