Come for the resources, stay for the insight. @JenifferPithy shares her journey on understanding and promoting culturally sustaining pedagogy in her newest @corelaboratewa blog post. #WATeachLead https://t.co/NHJQp6c6ey
@mrs_tilley A7: We unpack the assessment at the beginning of the unit, and students measure their growth in relation to the identified skills as we work through the unit. After the unit assessment, students do a metacognitive reflection. #WATeachLead
@MsKarenFoley A5: This is one area I would like to work on. It can be hard to make sure you are holding all students to rigorous standards while also making sure your assessments are at the right level--I hate to discourage kids! #WATeachLead
@mrs_tilley Q5: I like to make sure students can show their learning in a variety of ways--a speech, a poem, a story, a comic strip, a song, and advertisement...any of these could be ways for students to demonstrate imagery or voice or characterization, for instance. #WATeachLead
@mrs_tilley Q4: Descriptive criteria is certainly the way to go, but the descriptors can be tied to numbers. For instance, our district (and others) has developed K-12 rubrics for 21st Century Skills (including creativity) that detail what each level of proficiency looks like. #WATeachLead
@mrs_tilley Q3: Strategic grouping can work--either pairing those kids with students who are strong in that area and can help teach, or groups with similar areas for growth so I can give them differentiated supports. #WATeachLead
@mrs_tilley Q2: For skills that will be eventually measured summatively (or on a standardized test), I like to give them opportunities to practice, analyze, and discuss in small groups as I listen in. Then we debrief and reflect on next steps. #WATeachLead
