I remember the exact moment I first heard ‘The Tragically Hip’ I was sitting in my apartment in NYC, ‘Phantom Power’ had just come out and somehow MuchMusic was on my TV. The video of ‘Bobcaygeon’ came on, I heard the snare tone of Johnny Fay and instantly new they meant business, then the guitars, then Gord’s voice AND those lyrics ‘I left your house this mornin’, bout a quarter after nine, could have been the Willie Nelson, could have been the wine…’ damn, instantly hooked, I called a friend in Toronto and asked him about the band. A week later he had sent me their entire catalog and I’ve loved them ever since. I even have a guitar I bought in Kingston, Ontario (‘53 Hofner) very similar to one I saw Downie playing once. They’re more than just a band and their final chapter was both elegiac and intensely beautiful, an affirmation of life even in the face of tremendous loss. An inspiration for the ages. Sure, they never really hit it big in the States (beyond Buffalo) but they didn’t need to, what they achieved was something far greater and another of the many gifts Canada has given the world. If you don’t know the band you’re in for a treat and check out ‘No Dress Rehearsal’ now, you won’t regret it. Love the Hip. @thehipofficial

@mini_bubbly I just watched a shark show all about this! They think the older sharks are bullying the juveniles out of Cape Cod area and it forces them north for food sources. All the tagged sharks showing up in NS appear to be young but no less dangerous!
