@videograndpa@PROTOTYPE0115 Fun fact: when I worked for IGN we were owned by Fox. HR headquarters was based in that building on the studio lot. It’s just a regular office building. I went there once for work. It was the opposite of glam, but still a cool experience.
@jasondickaf Jason, I moved from rural small town Tx to Austin in fall 2000 to attend UT and distinctly remember when you started your show because it was 10,000 times better than any radio I had ever heard. Your voice will always be a “Best of Austin” for me.👏 🙏
Reliving camping in the living room, my son’s most vivid memory of The Texas Blackout. Thankfully this time it’s not 42 degrees inside, so we’re having fun with it. @MoseBuchele@mattlargey
@Atlan0x @HaysKali Much of the complexity of Payroll and HR comes from understanding and applying labor law. Learning laws and regulations and applying them is not something that happens in a day.
@ArkayEsq @SincereSloth @BenWarTooth @guacamoto @HaysKali More of my time was devoted to rooting out sexual harassment predators, but now and then we did have a dog take a shit in an office.
@TheMarieOakes@gaeaxa@rheinsteinrex @HaysKali JFC. Yes. I used ADP, Kronos, Insperity and other software for payroll. Those company’s software still require input each pay period. The tables I submitted electronically and vetted going in and out were complex.
@TheMarieOakes @HaysKali I am so confused by all the people telling me I didn’t process payroll when working in HR. I did. For hundreds of employees. For years. It seems people have a very narrow idea of the function of HR.
@KatsuHenrikki@RandiKinman @guacamoto @HaysKali Lololololol, glad you found my LinkedIn. I assure you, I 💯 was the HR person running payroll as part of my HR job for 3 of my former employers as many hundreds of my former colleagues can attest.
@benorgan @Mr_GHARice @HaysKali In most companies payroll and HR are combined - often the same person. HR isn't perfect, but I am convinced it's reviled because privacy rules and regs dictate that we can't ever speak about our true work.
@dj1028_jean@kathiemmcclure @HaysKali I used to process payroll with ADP. It's software that requires inputs. The tables are huge. It is complex for companies with employees in many countries, states, cities - lots of laws, timing, and moving pieces, especially when termination and severance is involved.
@rnrdiva@mhsheikh @guacamoto @HaysKali I think the other thing people do not realize is that payroll for large companies is very complex and can't be easily assumed by someone else. There are many laws and regulations to comply with at every level of government, multiplied by every location that has employees.
@rnrdiva@mhsheikh @guacamoto @HaysKali 100%. If employees lose faith in payroll happening on time, every time, and correctly the company is instant toast.
@kithrup @HaysKali I have more experience in mass layoffs than I care to admit, and the golden rule is always, always ALWAYS make sure HR and IT are the last employees to be cut. We're practically held hostage until the final round to make sure the rest of the departures happen according to plan.
@kithrup @HaysKali Yes, things shut down quickly when you lose critical biz ops experts in HR, payroll, finance, accounting and legal...all those pesky cost centers. People forget in the last financial crisis many companies locked their doors and never opened them again. I was there.
