Today I testified for HB 178 to include Ethnic Studies as an option in Texas' required social studies curriculum. I've been recently reminded by a scholar I admire and respect so much that our job is to hold up a mirror for others. So, consider this an opportunity for reflection.

Senator Creighton says he “supports a diversity of viewpoints,” yet he invited testimony with only one viewpoint. Despite being able to sit and listen to those testimonies for > 6 hours, he walked out only 45 minutes into public testimony who hold a different viewpoint #txlege

Students of color have dealt with hate speech for a long time and they didn’t get invited to testify and tell their story. And to have actual consideration of legal action and support by the state government. Where is the concern for other marginalized students? #txlege

Invited testimonies are based on a lie about antisemitism views, targeting students based on faith and culture, etc. There were no invited testimony for people to even respond. They’re speaking for someone else’s viewpoints and not allowing them to speak for themselves #txlege
