Closing the Attitude Gap

I remember a teacher telling me: “When you’re surrounded by superstars… it makes you want to be better than you are.” That’s the power of collaboration -- the power of positive peer pressure. The best teachers don’t just inspire their students; they inspire their colleagues.
Administrators be present. It makes a big difference. Much like teachers who are in the hallways or greeting students at door. When admin are in the halls, classrooms, bus or car lines, you create connections.
Confidence is a skill not a trait. You’re born with it and you build it every single day of your life. Research proves that confidence is built when you try, when you fail, when you grow and when you stretch yourself. That’s why you’re always building it.
Teachers… I wonder what your students are coping with at home this weekend.
Principals… I wonder what your staff is coping with at home this weekend.
It will matter when we see them on Monday.
School administrators can’t build culture by themselves… but they can certainly set the right tone. And that tone is:
1) The administration supports the teachers.
2) The teachers collaborate to support the students.
3) We’re all gonna have fun doing it.
Some educators are exceptional. It is not a fluke, and it’s not a mystery. They are passionate about what they do… they are passionate about who they serve… and they work their butts off.
