Support the Cast and Responsible Corrections of Perfect Crown. Protect the Hard Work of the Cast and Crew!

To MBC Broadcasting Network, Disney+ Management, and the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC)

We, the international and domestic fans of the MBC drama Perfect Crown, are launching this petition to express our deep respect for traditional Korean culture, while firmly standing in support of keeping the drama accessible across global VOD and OTT platforms. We strongly believe that total removal or broadcast bans would be an unjust punishment for a team that has already demonstrated immense accountability.

1. Full Accountability Has Already Been Taken

We acknowledge and validate the concerns raised regarding the cultural and historical implications of the coronation sequence in Episode 11. However, we want to highlight that the production team and creators did not ignore the public.

The immediate and thorough response from Director Park Jun-hwa demonstrates a profound respect for Korean history and the concerns of the public. By swiftly removing and correcting the controversial segments, editing out the coronation audio, and adjusting subtitles for VOD and streaming versions, the director and production team have shown that they hold the integrity of their nation's heritage in the highest regard, proving their commitment to responsible storytelling. Furthermore, lead actors IU and Byeon Woo-seok have issued humble, deeply sincere personal apologies, taking full moral responsibility for elements far beyond an actor's creative control.

2. Preserving the Artistic Integrity and Hard Work of the Cast and Crew

Perfect Crown is the result of months of grueling labor by hundreds of staff members, crew, and a dedicated cast who poured their hearts into delivering an exceptional cinematic experience. Banning the broadcast or completely erasing the show from streaming services invalidates the hard work of innocent crew members and actors who had no say in props, scripts, or historical consulting decisions.

3. The Importance of Preserving Access to the Series

As a united community of domestic and global viewers, our love for K-dramas stems from a deep admiration for Korean storytelling and culture. Perfect Crown achieved immense success and brought joy to millions of viewers worldwide. Deleting the show from platforms like Disney+ and VOD services punishes the entire audience who simply wish to enjoy the artistic performances, growth, and high-quality production of this series in its corrected form.

We respectfully urge MBC, Disney+, and cultural authorities to reject calls for a total broadcast ban or permanent erasure of Perfect Crown. The necessary corrections have already been implemented responsibly. We ask that you protect the artistic contributions of the cast and crew, allow the drama to remain streaming globally in its edited form, and recognize that the mistakes have been met with genuine reflection, respect, and correction.

Sutradara drama MBC #PerfectCrown 'Park Joon Hwa' akhirnya buka suara soal kritikan akting dua pemeran utamanya, Byeon Woo Seok dan IU, serta kontroversi distorsi sejarah. Ia mengaku merasa sangat bersalah karena para aktor ikut menerima kritik tajam, padahal menurutnya mereka hanya menjalankan arahan yang ia berikan.

Soal kritik akting IU yang dianggap terlalu berlebihan, sutradara menjelaskan bahwa itu memang arahannya. Ia ingin karakter Hui Ju terlihat sangat ambisius, emosional, dan punya sisi dramatis supaya terasa seperti tokoh utama di komik romantis. Menurutnya, jika dimainkan terlalu realistis, karakter itu malah akan terasa dingin dan membuat drama jadi membosankan. Ia merasa IU berhasil membuat karakter yang awalnya tampak keras menjadi lebih hidup dan manusiawi.

Sementara itu, Byeon Woo Seok dikritik karena ekspresinya dianggap terlalu datar. Namun sutradara mengatakan ia memang meminta Wooseok menahan emosi karena karakter pangeran seharusnya terlihat tenang dan tidak mudah menunjukkan perasaan. Ia ingin perubahan emosinya muncul perlahan setelah jatuh cinta, sehingga perkembangan karakter terasa lebih kuat di akhir cerita. Menurutnya, tatapan mata dan aura sedih Byeon Woo Seok sudah sangat cocok dengan karakter pangeran yang kesepian dan penuh beban.

Sutradara juga mengungkapkan bahwa Byeon Woo Seok sebenarnya sempat mencoba menunjukkan sisi emosi yang lebih beragam saat syuting, tetapi justru ia sendiri yang meminta agar tetap ditahan demi menyesuaikan konsep karakter. Karena itu, ia merasa kritik yang diterima para aktor seharusnya menjadi tanggung jawabnya juga sebagai sutradara.

Di akhir wawancara, sutradara kembali menegaskan bahwa banyak hal yang dipermasalahkan penonton sebenarnya merupakan hasil keputusan dan arahannya sendiri. Karena itu, ia merasa para aktor tidak pantas menanggung semua kritik sendirian.

งานวิจัยเรื่อง The Long-Term Stability of Affective Bonds After Romantic Separation: Do Attachments Simply Fade Away? ของ Jia Y. Chong และ R. Chris Fraley

ผลการศึกษาพบว่า สำหรับคนส่วนใหญ่ ความผูกพันหลังการเลิกราจะค่อยๆ ลดลงตามเวลา แต่ไม่ได้หายไปทันที โดยจุดกึ่งกลางของการเปลี่ยนผ่านนี้อยู่ที่ประมาณ 4 ปี หลังความสัมพันธ์สิ้นสุดลง

กล่าวอีกแบบคือ สมองและอารมณ์ของมนุษย์ใช้เวลานานมากในการเปลี่ยนใครสักคนจาก “ศูนย์กลางทางอารมณ์” ให้กลายเป็นเพียง “บุคคลในความทรงจำ”

สิ่งนี้อธิบายได้ว่าทำไมหลายคน แม้จะเลิกกันไปนานแล้ว แต่ยังมีบางช่วงเวลาที่อีกฝ่ายย้อนกลับมาในความคิด บางคนฝันถึงแฟนเก่าโดยไม่ได้ตั้งใจ บางคนเผลอเปรียบเทียบคนใหม่กับคนเดิม หรือบางคนยังรู้สึกใจสั่นเมื่อได้ยินชื่อหรือกลิ่นที่เชื่อมโยงกับอดีต ทั้งหมดนี้ไม่ได้แปลว่าพวกเขา “อ่อนแอ” หรือ “ยังไม่ move on” เสมอไป แต่อาจเป็นเพราะระบบความผูกพันของมนุษย์ไม่ได้ถูกออกแบบมาให้ลบใครออกไปได้เหมือนการลบไฟล์ในคอมพิวเตอร์

น่าสนใจว่า งานวิจัยชิ้นนี้แยกความแตกต่างระหว่าง “การยังมีความผูกพันทางอารมณ์” กับ “การอยากกลับไปคบ” ออกจากกันอย่างชัดเจน เพราะหลายคนไม่ได้ต้องการรีเทิร์นความสัมพันธ์อีกแล้ว แต่ในระดับลึกของจิตใจ อีกฝ่ายยังคงเป็นบุคคลสำคัญในระบบอารมณ์ของพวกเขาอยู่

ท้ายที่สุด งานวิจัยนี้อาจกำลังบอกเราว่า การเติบโตหลังความสัมพันธ์จบลง ไม่ได้หมายถึงการไม่มีความรู้สึกเหลืออยู่เลย แต่อาจหมายถึงการที่อีกฝ่ายไม่ได้เป็น “ศูนย์กลางของระบบอารมณ์” ของเราอีกต่อไป แม้ร่องรอยบางอย่างจะยังคงอยู่ก็ตาม
