It just hit me: there are *TWO* reporters left at @wamu885, a station that covers a metropolitan area of 6 million people. That’s one-tenth the size the newsroom was two years ago, and the smallest it has been in two decades.
A Trump-Vance admin would restrict abortion & repro health services in the name of family values. Here’s why that not only restricts freedom & opportunity for working women & fits their agenda of disempowering all workers and their families. #Debate2024

📢 Abortion is an economic issue! 📢
"Abortion bans work hand in hand with other economic policies–like low minimum wages and lack of healthcare–to impoverish workers and their families."
Here's how (🧵):

@capitalweather can someone check on @MatthewCappucci? Just heard the weather report and no “Hey, gang”? No weather with a sassy side of I-freakin’-live-for-weather-listen-to-this-and-you-will-too. Is everything ok? ❤️🩹
"And then someone noticed the wee one's sleeve looked like her skirt. Or was it the other way around? Sure, there was some red ...and some tartan ...and they weren't at all how they were supposed to be. And I says to meself "Colm, yon's a wee bit suspicious."
Then AP said ..."
The last @DCist story I wrote before being laid off was about Dulce, a teacher who was recruited to the US for a foreign exchange program. But she (and 60 others) fell victim to a local man’s trafficking scheme & wound up in debt. Now, she says her family needs help via GoFundMe.
WAMU management has justified @DCist's shutdown and layoffs by pointing to outside research and consultant reports.

Breaking: @wamu885 has made access to all published DCist stories available to the public for at least one year as it seeks a long-term home for the archive. The archives are available at https://t.co/eCJmTpubvB

Today is a good day to #UnlockDCist.
Please sign our letter demanding that @AmericanU, @SylviaBurwell, Seth Grossman, and Erika Pulley-Hayes make @DCist publicly accessible. We need to preserve local history.
We appreciate your support thus far.

It is imperative that @SylviaBurwell, Seth Grossman, Erika Pulley-Hayes, and Michael Tribble #UnlockDCist. It’s a matter of democracy.
See our letter below. We encourage you to share:
@StrawmanHere@Curious_Kurz@RadioKitty It’s not the server costs. Unless by server costs you mean check out that organizational structure where the chief exec-to-journalist ration is nearly 1:1
Now that the news is out that @dcist is dead and 15 great people will lose their jobs, some truths. No one at @dcist/@wamu885 was ignorant of the tough realities of media. But this is more a failure of leadership than anything.
This is a true loss to our community.
Well-informed residents are essential to democracy, and good government is harder to accomplish without rigorous public examination and discussion of what we do. The absence of @dcist will be heartfelt by all of us.
DC will feel the loss of DCist and cuts at WAMU.
Democracies need vigorous, active local press corps asking tough questions and breaking critical news.
To the journalists who were let go: Thank you for your work on behalf of the District.
@andreaisawriter This is an excellent thread — I hope to be asked some of these questions when hiring, as well as ask these when interviewing. Thank you! 🙌
