As India’s unilateral and illegal actions of 5 August 2019 in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) complete seven years, no amount of rhetoric can alter the internationally recognized disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir or deny the rights of its people enshrined in international law and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

The reality in IIOJK remains that a prolonged heavy military presence and draconian laws are enabling India to pursue its demographic engineering aimed at altering the territory’s Muslim-majority status, alongside systematic efforts to silence the Kashmiri people and obliterate their identity.

Hollow and unsubstantiated claims of development cannot substitute the inalienable right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to determine their own future through a free and impartial plebiscite, as mandated by the United Nations.

Pakistan reiterates its unwavering support for the just struggle of the Kashmiri people and calls on India to reverse its illegal measures, end its human rights violations, and create conditions conducive to a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Charter, the relevant Security Council resolutions, and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

From the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, I called upon the international community particularly the United Nations to move beyond symbolic statements and take concrete action toward a peaceful, just and lasting resolution of the Kashmir dispute, with the Kashmiri people at the heart of the process.

The previous day, I visited the flood-affected areas of Hatoon and Hasis in Ishkoman Valley with Abdul Jahan, Member Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly; Niat Bahadur, General Secretary PML-N Ghizer; and our team. We reviewed the damage and assessed the urgent needs of the affected communities.
We stand firmly with every affected family and remain committed to immediate relief, restoration of essential services and timely rehabilitation.

Today, in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, I raised my voice for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The unilateral actions of 5 August 2019 cannot erase Kashmir’s disputed status, silence its people or deny them their legitimate right to self-determination. Kashmir cannot be resolved through force, restrictions or changes imposed on paper. A just and lasting peace requires respect for international law, relevant United Nations resolutions and, above all, the will and dignity of the Kashmiri people.

The people of Gilgit-Baltistan stand firmly with our Kashmiri brothers and sisters. Their struggle for justice has not been forgotten, and their voice cannot be silenced.
