During a Q&A many of our members pushed our CEO, Editor-in-Chief, head of legal and HR, and COO on questions around the decisions behind the layoffs, concerns around diversity in our newsroom, the future of our editorial coverage, and more in depth information on our finances.
For months, we have asked management for information about company finances. Management refused time and time again. We won’t stop pushing until we get honest answers.
Today, management laid off 15% of our unit members, with additional layoffs in edit and business. We are heartbroken and outraged for our colleagues who lost their jobs.
This was such an important win, not only for our shop but for all Guild and union contracts that come after. If anyone out there has questions about this re: their own contract fight, hit me up and I will try to help how I can.
Ours is the first Guild contract to secure language protecting reproductive & gender-affirming health care. We also have a re-opener to negotiate for travel reimbursements once legalities around this become more clear.
This is the hardest work I have ever done, and the work I am the proudest to have completed successfully. I could not have done it without every member of TIME Union standing behind me. What a great day! 🧵👇
TIME Union gathered for lunch today to talk about standing together with our TIME for Kids colleagues and the fair contract we deserve that will protect ALL of us.
Honored to return to the table tomorrow on behalf of my colleagues, each of whom deserves fair pay, benefits and protections that reflect their hard work. We want a contract that benefits ALL of us. 🧵👇
Tomorrow our bargaining committee is back at the table. We are so close to getting a fair contract, but management continues to bring proposals to the table that don’t reflect the rights we deserve as dedicated employees of @TIME.
Coming together in solidarity is a boon for the soul. We carry it with us as our fight for a fair contract continues. Sign our petition and stand with us.
Thank you to everyone who supported us today and attended our Twitter Spaces rally. Please continue to support us in our fight for a fair contract by signing our petition. Even though we did not walk out today, our solidarity is stronger than ever. https://t.co/6Wn0r4jPrJ
It is absurd that @TIME has been stalling contract talks with workers for nearly 3 years. I stand in solidarity with @timemagunion in their struggle for fair wages and decent working conditions.
As of now, we still do not have a fair contract and @TIME management has not committed to any more bargaining before May 23, even though we’ve let them know we’re ready and willing. We are prepared to walk out on Monday and demonstrate the power of our labor.
Yesterday, @nyguild President @susandecarava sent a letter to TIME owners Lynne and Marc @Benioff, urging them to do right by us.
“Our members want to celebrate the TIME100 release knowing TIME will be a better place to work for everyone.”
@daniellesmitle Lemon curd. Chicken francaise. Lemon risotto. And the best recipe: use one or two now and for the rest save the zest in a bag in the freezer and freeze the juice into ice cubes and just be stocked up on lemon ingredients forever and toss it into things when the whim strikes.
Thanks to @abbyvesoulis, @TIME’s coverage of our union drive was among the most impactful.
TIME must give the basic rights and dignity in the workplace we’re fighting for to their own journalists, photographers & staff who make this coverage possible! https://t.co/OqIgNn9lWc
