Clearly going to be splendid read! So looking forward to reading / re-reading ALL these stories (and so happy to see my best girl @jenniferjustus among the contributors).
I post this every year....it’s an iconic image from my youth, taken 55 years ago, at the moment labor activist Cesar Chavez ended a 25 day fast with a piece of communion bread, given to him by then Sen Robert Kennedy. One week later, RFK would enter the 1968 Presidential race. Three months later, I turned 10…and both he and Martin Luther King would be dead. Never more poignant, it represents physical courage, political will, human solidarity & the power food. Never give up on the dream.
Lots to love about this @NashvilleScene story by @littmanwrites. Like this quote by Benji Cook about the neon sign at @wendellsmiths1's: “That is our baby,” Cook says. “I treasure my neon, for sure. If I ever closed the restaurant, I would cut that down and take it to my house.”
If he:
-Changes his entire look for you
-Travels 1,900 miles upstream to chase you
-Procreates and dies
-Replenishes an entire ecosystem with his carcass
He's not your valentine, he's a Chinook salmon
For sports reasons, I wish I'd retweeted this yesterday, but it's never a bad day to read a beautiful essay about the great city of Philadelphia by @NovicSara!!
The family behind iconic local meat-and-three Arnold's Country Kitchen is making an "exit on our terms." @CeeElCee has all the details.

“Leonard Cohen said his teacher once told him that, the older you get, the lonelier you become, and the deeper the love you need. This is because, as we go through life, we tend to over-identify with being the hero of our stories. 🧵1/
“You need a good bull**** detector, you shouldn't rant, and you shouldn't cheerlead. But objectivity is dispassionate. And we're in the passion business. We're trying to make people feel something different than what they felt before they read our words.”

“Deep is so un-American now, even radical. We live too often like water skeeters on the surface of the pond, dropping down for a quick bite of insect or e-mail. Deep is the realm of soul.” ~@ANNELAMOTT
Wrapping up my first project with @wildsamguides soon and grateful to be learning with these folks. “Even through the mess and hectic news cycles, at the end of the day our view is that the world is good, and our books set out to prove that."-Taylor Bruce https://t.co/2aH3FGDJbo
