@Rookietherooks@alibrooke4ever Also, they were both launched in 1977, after the US arbitrarily declared they won the space race, so were a non-factor in making people think they won.
@Rookietherooks@alibrooke4ever My dude.
My guy.
Mon petite fromage.
The Milky way is 100,000 Ly across.
Voyager 1 has only traveled 25.8 billion kilometers. This is 0.27% of a single Lightyear.
Proxima Centauri, our nearest neighbor, is 4 Ly away.
We can't even check next door, let alone 'far reaches.'
@notacop696969@newbiedm Nah, people have always been able to crash into things at light speed. Shields logically protect you from that, except oops that got undone.
@notacop696969@newbiedm Starkiller base has a planetary defense shield around it. Han has to bring the ship out of Light Sheep between the shield and the planet's surface.
So this happens in TFA. Prior to this, it is reasonable to assume things just splat against the shields.
@bugtrio@JayJay33737432 I would argue that 'Lex pinky promises he didn't edit what they said, trust his translation' is a weird stance for the film to take that I hope gets fixed later on.
@EvilAngelPaws@wtfahhh0 Yeah. I'm saying they were pierced while she was in Krypton, long before her pod lands on Earth and she meets Clark. Evident in this picture, where Clark first meets her/she only speaks Kryptonian, while her ears are already pierced.
@sarahlicity@thereisnobeth@muaddibstyle Unfortunately, Abrams made it so you can just phase through shields while traveling Light Speed. Which means this is actually his fault!
@TanKieUltra@thereisnobeth@muaddibstyle Unfortunately, in a post Force Awakening world, you can just phase through shields while traveling Light Speed. Which means this is all JJs fault.
@McgillivaryIan@muaddibstyle Also the second he realizes what Holdo means to do, he immediately tells them to fire on the cruiser, but at that point it's too late.
Still, I blame Abrams. Before he made it so ships could phase through shields while going FTL, they probably just pancaked into said shields.
@TransmissionsSW My defense is more meta: up until TFA, we have no instance of any FTL through a raised shield. Others point out this is a dumb idea.
So, anything traveling that fast should slam into the forcefield and end up flat before the shield can even register the impact has occurred.
@ShoodTheDude I would argue that prior to Abrams allowing ships to just phase through shields by going FTL, this tactic didnt exist because 'let them crash into a shiepd, the ship will go splat long before the shield registers the impact and collapses.' Shame JJ broke it first.
