I am not enjoying Twitter now since The Takeover. I am not seeing any of the people I love on my TL. Some of you left and some of you stayed, but it doesn’t matter because the TL doesn’t want me to see you anymore. I hate IG, so for now, find me at [email protected]
@LearningToan Your question frames homeschoolers as the awkward ones, but why would we define normal behavior” as that exhibited by children imprisoned in school? I would argue that schooled kids might be the ones in need of a healthier social experience.
@ReadWellAlaska@cblack__@xianb8@Sisyphus38 Meanwhile, 2 of my 4 unschooled kids were hyperlexic early readers. 2 were reluctant. All learned without explicit instruction. Interpret however you want, but they are not unicorns.
@ReadWellAlaska@cblack__@xianb8@Sisyphus38 Let me present this a different way. As a hyperlexic child, I knew which reading group I was in. And the reluctant readers knew they were in the “stupid” group without being explicitly told. Is that not a punishment?
I hear this comment a lot in conventional circles. From parents too. “I’m her Mom/teacher, not her friend.”
I mean, with regards to my kids & the 25-30 kids whose educations I facilitate at Bungalow Lane, I hope I am both? I have not found it hard to be both.
This happened in a place where family law has been changed to allow room for reasonable parenting choices like this, but not criminal law. 🤮 How did this make anyone’s life better or safer?
A mom was handcuffed, jailed, and prosecuted for child endangerment after her 8-year-old son walked half a mile home through the suburbs. https://t.co/QtOg80SPg1
@alixandra27 My kid’s HS just unilaterally imposed a very unpopular Yondr pouch policy, so no I guess. As unschoolers we are SO annoyed. And also non compliant.
One of the best things about Twitter for me has been connecting with unschool and SDE advocates all over the world. I am hardly finding any of their voices here now, and that makes me sad. It was fun while it lasted.
I was thrilled. They were thrilled. The cherry on top was when I started to pull cash out of my wallet, & one stopped me & said “Actually I prefer ApplePay if that works for you.” 😂 I think I can’t love these kids any more than I already do & then BAM they get me again. 4/end
On Wednesday at Bungalow Lane ALC, two kids asked if I had any jobs-for-pay around the property. Our playground sits in the shade of a huge fruitless mulberry tree that dumps leaves all fall and winter long so YES. I did have a job. 1
I returned Thursday morning to an absolutely immaculate playground. It looked so good, and I was delighted. I paid them what I pay the gardener I occasionally hire to clean it up. 3
@made_in_cosmos I asked my son when he was three, “are you little or are you big now?” and he wisely answered “I’m a little bit big and a little bit little.” ❤️
