My official opinion of our world cup:
Lose to Bosnia: abject failure
Lose in r.o. 16: bare minimum, disappointing
Lose in QF (to Spain/Portugal): success
Lose in Semi final: unbelievable sucess
Lose final: Unreal
Win: pic of Poch in my living room 4 life
@MC_of_A Just checking back in here: What are Portugal’s current most likely R32 opponents? Is your model’s initial prediction still the most likely at this stage?
@MC_of_A Isn't the table saying that Portugal have a 20% chance of facing England in R32? Does that specifically mean that there is a 20% chance that BOTH of two things will happen: (1) Portugal finishing 2nd in Group K and (2) England finishing 2nd in Group L?
@MC_of_A Thanks for all of these responses. I'm honestly not trolling, just trying to understand your model (and also I'm going to the R32 game in KC, so very interested in projections of Portugal's R32 matchups.
@MC_of_A But why not project on the basis of the first most-likely outcome (i.e., Portugal finishes top of Group K and matches up against a third-place finisher from D, E, I, J, or L)?
@RoKhanna I also think there's an argument to be made that mail-in ballots should have to be postmarked by some date before election day to count (so as to ensure that all mail-in ballots are received -- if not tabulated -- by the time polls close). I say this as a vocal mail-in supporter.
A close friend of mine is cancelling his voter registration today. He is convinced Spencer Pratt was robbed of the election. I explained to him that in California we count absentees first (which skew older and more conservative) and election day voters are younger and more Democratic. The slow count is largely because of policies to maximize participation, including postmarking a ballot on Election Day.
Regardless, we need to figure out in California how we can get the vote counted faster and results tabulated so it does not drag on. We should make the investments in operational improvements and resources in the wealthiest state in the nation. It is worth spending the resources to get the vast majority of the vote counted within 48 hours. Right now the system is eroding trust and spawning conspiracy theories.
For those wondering why the late votes in LA were not only breaking more Democratic, but also more @nithyavraman, check out the second chart from @Political_Data tracker showing how young these later processed ballots were. https://t.co/577vV13sWS
