I am not sure if you own a house or not but if you do, on a weekly basis look around for falling cupboards, leaks & broken nails. Fix them. It will cost you a few dollars . That's called maintenance. If you do that regularly you will go for decades without needing to spend thousands to refurbish it

I am going to ask this again differently. Zim Land Commission floated a tender for 3 GD6 cars. There were 2 bidders - Earlgrey Motors & ByWorld. Faramatsi were then awarded the tender as the cheapest $77 000 a car. The same car at Toyota SA is $43 000. My question is, is the purpose of procurement depts just writing specs or they can also do research on pricing. Instead of going with an open lowest bid, why can't the tender be structured like " We need a company that can buy this car in SA, and deliver it to us at not more than $53 000. We will pay 50% upfront and the rest within 30 days of delivery"

This wld have saved the govt $72 000.

I am asking this because one of the Tenders was actually specific... "We want a South African made Toyota..."

I really need someone here who understands Zimbabwe Customs laws or a ZIMRA rep here to give us clarity: "Does the government pay import duty on items that are exclusively used by the government?" If they do, does it make sense?

Fellow landlords & property owners why are we running amok on rentals? I just saw a house in Burnside Bulawayo going for ZAR90,000 per month. This means one is paying rentals that are equivalent to buying a seaside cottage every year in Scottsburg South Africa and Portshepstone in KZN? Is this sustainable? What am I missing?

One of our biggest undoing as a pple is neglecting the small things in pursuit of Grandiose Mega Ideas.

There was a blueprint for road maintenance in Zimbabwe probably carried over from colonialism. If you look at Beitbridge-Chirundu road, every district it passes thru had a "Roadpartment" whose duty was to maintain the fences, cut grass and fix potholes. KwaChivi it was just before Dhibha rekwaMafenga.

Every 10 yrs, there would be resurfacing of the road. This was stopped just after ESAP. The road deteriorated and now we need billions of $ to build anew.

This is the case with Parirenyatwa and all hospitals in the country. We neglect maintenance waiting for things to be totalled before we are seen running around ullulating for "Major refurbishments"
