The clearest articulation Colbert has ever given of how his Catholicism feeds his comedy came in February 2022, when Dua Lipa turned the tables on him and asked, on his own show, whether his faith and his work ever overlap.
He answered:
“I’m a Christian and a Catholic, and that’s always connected to the idea of love and sacrifice being somehow related — and giving yourself to other people, and that death is not defeat.
“Sadness is like a little bit of an emotional death, but not a defeat if you can find a way to laugh about it. Because that laughter keeps you from having fear of it. And fear is the thing that keeps you from turning to evil devices to save you from the sadness.
“So if there’s some relationship between my faith and my comedy, it’s that no matter what happens, you are never defeated.”
I lean heavily on news archives for my work and am always stunned by how much newspapers used to cover. Like, what do you mean there was a guy whose full-time beat was “local bowling leagues and the cafeteria outside family court”???
I wear a Tennessee/UT hat a lot when I travel. I nearly always get a “Go Vols!” at some point, whether it was on the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City, or twice yesterday at Disneyland in California. #GoVols#Vols
In the middle of Ken Burns’ “Baseball,” George Will explains American democracy in terms largely forgotten by partisans and journalists today. Please watch and spread around!
I'm biased, but I think the Nashville Banner is the best source for Nashville and Tennessee news. There's no paywall on the stories, and the daily morning newsletter is free, too. It includes our stories plus exclusive news blurbs and links.

@dieworkwear have any thoughts on boat shoes?
Brands, how many eyes, features to look for, alternatives, similar shoes to consider, types of leather, color, soles, etc?
I’ve worn out several pairs of Sperry boat shoes over the years.
Thanks!
On June 6th, 1944 American hero's landed on the beaches of Normandy under heavy fire. The son of a president fought side by side brave men from all across the country. Privilege didn't mean you could take more, it meant you owed more.
This meeting, how it was filmed, “there will be no notes,” the topic being about essentially devising a means to easily kill millions, all reminded me of the movie Conspiracy which depicted a meeting of Nazis coming up with the Final Solution. Well done, Tony Gilroy. #Andor

This has got to be my favorite scene rn. The way Ben Mendelsohn controlled the room, making a potential genocide look like a bright business opportunity? The banality of his tone as he talked about ending a PLANET? I felt the chill of it in my bones.
@Beth_Way14 @emilykmay This is the right answer. Mine was expired but I was able to renew. All online, but that was months ago. Also, I saw your other reply about your maiden name. Not sure how that affects it. But as far as being expired, you can still renew. It’s an option if you renew online.
Imagine telling a Vietnam vet flying on the last chopper out of Saigon that one day the Communist General Secretary of Vietnam would be trying to persuade an American President to embrace free markets
The unrecognized failure of the Trump tariffs approach is that he is depending on big global companies to create manufacturing jobs here. He has completely ignored entrepreneurs and innovators.
Innovators and entrepreneurs will create disruption. Instead of focusing on amplifying what they are doing , he is doing deals with huge companies because he likes big headline numbers
This administration needs to realize that entrepreneurs create jobs, big companies cut them.
