@JeffreyRWRath I don’t support infighting and dividing the movement.
Too many past independence movements have died from lack of unity.
The path Danielle has set, does the work we need it to.
We are going to do this! This vote may not be legally binding, but it will absolutely be socially binding.
This question skirts around the ability for the courts to block it. This referendum will be the most important vote of our lives. We will find out how much support for this there really is.
Canada will never allow us to leave legally. They will do absolutely anything and everything to stop this. A binding referendum wouldn’t even be recognized by them anyway. Just like the way they handled the petition gathering.
This is why this referendum is the one that matters. It doesn’t matter which question is used, what matters is that we vote for Independence.
A binding or non-binding referendum each carries the same weight, because it’s the social aspect that actually counts. Legalities no longer matter when a Unilateral Declaration of Independence is passed.
Have faith. Have patience. Have the conversations. Let’s get this done!
Do you actually see the possibility that Canada would undertake to invade Alberta? Seriously?
I am presuming you'd blockade us first - which of course cuts the oil and gas to much of Canada depends on for energy.
You'd presume that you'd be prepared to eliminate East/West traffic to the Pacific as all transportation routes run astride Alberta.
You'd presume that the rest of Canada will not be impacted economically by the uncertainty and risk that foolish actions such as this would bring to Canada?
You'd presume that the US would stand idly by while a major source of their energy is impaired?
You'd presume that the Canadian military - less its Albertan members - would have the capability to undertake such a thing?
You'd presume that the international community would be just fine with a colonial power forcing its will on a new country built on the votes of those seeking self-determination?
Seriously. Your premise is nuts.
Please feel free to refute any of my points....
So you think that we’re all just going to lay down and do nothing after we show a 75% support on this non-binding referendum…
Quite honestly, I think the opposite. I know that we’d rise up as a people immediately after.
If Danielle does nothing AFTER this referendum, then we can remove her if needs be.
Until then, dividing the movement and creating instability within the UCP is a crash course. It’s suicide for independence. Mitch and Jeff are acting out of anger and not seeing this for what it’s worth.
This is true.
Having it non binding legally doesn’t change that it’s binding socially. When we show up with over 50%, that still guarantees our out. One way or another, there will be no stopping this movement when we show we’re majority. It’ll be hype. It won’t take much longer after Oct 19 if we’re successful.
First rule of politics; Actions speak louder than words.
We haven’t been stopped. And we need to show our numbers in order to do this.
Trust the path we’re on. Do not divide the movement. We don’t need to overthrow Danielle, her path will work for us. She hasn’t stopped us. She is on our side.
They will block the next question and the next question too. Don’t doubt that. That’s why we have the question we have.
Think about it. We do not know what the numbers for support are yet.
When we show up and support is greater than 50%, we will be UNSTOPPABLE. We will do whatever it takes to get this done at that point.
Danielle has provided us with the opportunity to show our true numbers. That’s the real strength behind the movement. We need proof of it before we can take action.
First rule of politics; Actions speak louder than words.
She had to do the question this way in order to skirt around the courts from blocking it. Non-binding does not hurt the movement, if anything there’s more pros than cons.
If the question was binding, and we fail, we’re stuck for 5 years until the next attempt. Whereas if the referendum passes, despite being legally non-binding, is socially binding.
When we show that support is greater than 50%, it will be literally impossible to put the movement to rest. There will be no stopping it no matter what the Feds throw at us.
Danielle is absolutely on our side. I do not doubt this.
@deep_6ix@MerifromAlberta That’s what happens when we’re told we can’t go to work because the libs are scared of getting a cough. 😷 despite them having “safe and effective” injections, they still lived with insane fears fed by a divisive ideology and government.
I suggest we not stir the pot with infighting. Instead, focus on the 30% sitting on the fence.
A failed non-binding referendum won’t block us for 5 years. A successful non-binding referendum will increase the energy of the movement, making it impossible to stop, while guaranteeing the binding referendum is a success.
Jeff. You know Danielle had to put for the question she did to dodge the courts from blocking it. We need this. We need to be able to have a real show of numbers on how many people are pro-independence.
When we get over 50%, it will be impossible to stop this movement. No matter what they throw at us, we have the strength in numbers.
Just be patient. It has to happen this way.
I wish this was as funny as it looks.
But sadly, this is frightening. This means that this meeting had no media presence, no media questions, and no chance at transparency.
Canada, you are captured.
