Q5: Empathy building, conflict resolution. I will talk about the power of a bystander, just like I would if it was a face to face conflict. It is so much easier to be mean behind a screen than face to face. #innovate28
A4: I used to think I was well prepared for my own child to enter into the new world of social media. Now I feel like I was delusional. Even though I am more aware of digital citizenship than most parents, I still wonder how I am going to help him navigate. #innovate28
Q2: What types of experiences can you facilitate in your classroom so students can practice their digital communication skills? @CommonSenseEd#innovate28
A1: Next year I want to do even more with Google Classroom to push out tasks/assignments instead of handing out papers. The fact that my classroom will be one-to-one with ipads makes me want to use less paper...but I wonder what will be lost in that exchange. #innovate28
It’s slow chat time! Q1: Reflect on your own media use during the school day. How can you model balance in your digital life for students? @CommonSenseEd#innovate28
A1: #innovate28 It is a challenge. My students know that I have Seesaw on my phone. They post things and want them viewable by their classmates instantly so they come to me asking to approve the post.

I made this video https://t.co/bUshbIWtuP for my students @GoMBStars as an example of how to do a @Seesaw post. I shared it with some colleagues and received such positive feedback that I decided to share it with you too. #innovate28
@RonitShapiro A3: Augmented reality and virtual reality are so fun! Talk about engaging students, this technology has so much potential to bring the outside world into the classroom. Who's ready for a virtual field trip? #innovate28
@RonitShapiro A2: Encouraging students to think outside of the box is an essential life skill. Being able to synthesize information in today's digital age will help students navigate and understand the world. Creativity blooms when students feel safe to fail and take risks. #innovate28
@RonitShapiro A1: Engagement looks like students who love learning and don't want it to stop. They embrace their own learning and the teacher facilitates and provides them with an environment to explore and take risks. #innovate28
@RonitShapiro A9: Teaching the whole child means teaching them about behavior online. Some students are able to express/explore in a digital environment that they couldn't otherwise. Empowering students includes teaching how to be responsible. It takes a lifetime. #DigCitCommit#innovate28
@RonitShapiro A8: I used Seesaw last year, but it was not for a global audience, just their classmates and parents. I have in the past used a blog, that anyone can access. #innovate28
@RonitShapiro A7: Roblox is the game my students were talking about last year. I don't know much about it, but I am curious to check it out. #innovate28
@RonitShapiro Q6: I just heard about the "dark web" which sounds like a scare tactic to me. However, illuminating the darkness sometimes shows us things that we don't want to see, or it can make something that seems scary and unfamiliar more relatable and understandable.
@RonitShapiro A5: Encourage struggle and have students share the hurdles they face and how they persevered. Being in a safe place where students are encouraged to share and see that everyone is working on improving #innovate28
@RonitShapiro A4: Spiderman told me that with "great power, comes great responsibility" and being a digital citizen of the world is an amazing power and needs to be treated as such. Think global and act local. #innovate28
@RonitShapiro A3: "good digital citizens are responsible and respectful in the
digital world (and beyond)." We are way more likely to say hurtful things when online than when talking in-person. Students need to understand that people are on the other end and that words matter. #innovate28
@RonitShapiro@CommonSenseEd A2: I like how the lessons are designed, with a focus on an essential question. It is about being a responsible and kind human, off and online. #innovate28
