A former top aide to New York Governor Kathy Hochul was arrested on federal charges for allegedly acting as an undisclosed agent of China.

What’s the deal: Linda Sun, a former deputy chief of staff to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, is accused of acting as an undisclosed agent for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) while holding various state government positions from 2012 to 2023. She is charged with violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, alien smuggling, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Her husband, Chris Hu, has also been charged.

Accusations against Sun & Hu: She used her influential position within the New York State Executive Chamber to covertly promote PRC and CCP interests by manipulating state messaging, blocking Taiwanese government representatives, crafting politicians statements based on approval by Chinese authorities, arranging unauthorized meetings between Chinese officials and New York State authorities, and facilitating illegal entry of PRC officials into the US.

What they receieved: Linda Sun and Chris Hu allegedly received millions of dollars in financial benefits as a result of their covert activities on behalf of the Chinese government. They laundered these funds to purchase luxury properties and high-end vehicles, including a $4.1 million real estate property in Manhasset, New York, a $2.1 million condominium in Honolulu, Hawaii, and a 2024 Ferrari. Additionally, they received other benefits such as luxury travel, event tickets, and assistance in promoting a family friend’s business.

FBI Acting Assistant Director Curtis said, “Sun wielded her position of influence among executives to covertly promote PRC and CCP agendas, directly threatening our country’s national security. The FBI is committed to protect the American people from any threat actors who seek to influence officials at the direction of foreign entities.”

Zero Coverage on this today: During a hearing on Capitol Hill today, multiple whistleblowers from various government agencies responsible for unaccompanied migrant children came forward to claim that the US government (HHS), in collaboration with a federal contractor named Cherokee Federal, has knowingly “allowed children to be trafficked under their watch,” all while “taxpayers continue to fund it.”

Deborah White, a federal employee assigned to the Health and Human Services Office of Refugee Resettlement (HHSORR), said, “Make no mistake, Children were not going to their parents. They were being trafficked with billions of taxpayer dollars by a contractor failing to vet sponsors and process children safely... With government officials complicit in it.”
