One year ago today, I walked out of federal prison.

Many believed then, and many believe now, that I never should have been there.

But over the last year I’ve learned something important:

Injustice can take away your freedom. It doesn’t have to take away your purpose.

Since returning home, I’ve spent precious time with my family, continued advocating for veterans, spoken publicly about justice reform, and kept serving the community that has given me so much.

Thank you to every person who stood beside me.

One year later, I’m still standing, still fighting for justice, and serving the Lord.

And the mission continues.

Forty-one years ago a judge warned that a grand jury could indict a ham sandwich. We laughed. We turned it into a joke. We should have treated it as a warning that justice reform was needed.

I always come with receipts.

During my trial, a VA executive testified that Louisville VA leadership wanted to bring me in because I was “good at building trust.”

The goal was to improve veteran trust scores.
I wasn’t paid.

I volunteered because I believed it would help veterans.

Years later, the same government indicted me over benefits I earned through military service.

As someone who lives this nightmare, it’s brutal. My daughter had to deal with this as she walked to class at University of Kentucky. Being a high profile case didn’t help. The govt gave me 3 days while I was in Fed prison to pay $50,000 or I would be violated the second I left and be sent right back. Guess who has to figure that out? My Bride who was NOT a co-defendant but treated as one.

It’s the worst feeling. I’ve been praying all day for him and his family. Last I heard was at 2:50pm with a message of “ appreciate it brother. “ We often talked about deployments and how to mentally prepare. We both agreed that deploying to serve our country is one thing but to serve our country and then unjustly be warehoused in federal prison is another.

I don’t continue to fight simply because I personally experienced injustice. I fight for the hundreds and thousands who don’t have a platform and don’t have the strength. Of course I want justice and restoration, but it’s so that I can get back into the arena for others.

Not theft. Political threat.

3/8-Then I became visible.
Asked to run for state senate in deep-blue Louisville/Kentucky.
Outspoken against Biden policies hurting veterans.
Loud supporter of Trump.
Suddenly, the system paid attention.
Courier Journal reporters called with phones ringing nonstop with people asking if I was running. They had to publish a news piece just to make the calls stop.
