@JMGregorchuk They wreak havoc on the structure. Have to transfer a bunch of stuff, have to cut back shear walls, have to deal with a bunch of extra mass up high (pavers + planters). It’s an anti pattern to efficient buildings
@CohenSite@otter401 Three issues: Heavy building means more seismic load. Lots of walls means very stiff, also attracts higher seismic load. The walls are typically pretty thin and planar (no flanges). Thin planar walls tend to have stability issues when pushed hard like in a seismic event.

✅Allow for 18 stories.
✅Allow for 9 stories without drywall.
✅Allow for different building structures - like schools and libraries.

Bottom steel getting placed in the core footing at our 4th successful performance-based seismic design project - a 38 story highrise in San Diego. This one was peer reviewed by some of the top seismic design experts in California, so its a sweet moment to see rebar on the ground.
@antonia_mdprjct This is spot on. We often come into projects when Arch has gone too far down the rabbit hole without accounting for realistic structure. Likewise, getting VE suggestions at the end of CD because GC wasn't at the table earlier. Both lead to missed opportunities for the developer

Happy to see it, but reminded of all the challenges along the way.
This project had a lot of them: Performance based seismic design, risk category III, office/res mixed use, eccentric core, V-shaped columns.
