This take completely misunderstands the entire nature of Victor von Doom’s threat level, because you’re trying to measure a multiversal god-killer using basic physical power scaling.

People love to joke about the overall power gap between DC and Marvel characters, but Doom is the absolute worst example to use for that argument since his entire gimmick is siphoning and weaponizing powers far greater than his own.

In the comics, Doom doesn't defeat high-tier threats like the Beyonders or the Celestials by out-punching them he uses his unmatched synthesis of quantum technology and dark sorcery to build devices that literally strip them of their omnipotence and leave them powerless.

If you dropped him into the DC Universe, he wouldn't get stuck fighting street-level heroes; he would immediately isolate the unique energy signatures of the Speed Force, a Green Lantern ring, or Kryptonian cellular biology and build a dampening grid to steal those forces for himself.

Doom is terrifying precisely because brute physical strength is completely useless against him, and trying to treat a man who literally stole the power to rewrite the entire multiverse like a low-tier villain is a massive miscalculation.

The Franklin Richards theory is an awesome concept, but trailer details prove that Marvel is going with the Chris Evans route.

Robert Downey Jr. is officially playing a completely separate, standalone Victor von Doom who is a non-variant entity from another reality who just happens to look like Tony.

Marvel doesn't want a complicated scientific explanation about pocket universes slowing down the plot, they are just focusing entirely on the brutal psychological impact of making the Avengers fight a monster wearing the exact same face as the man who saved the universe in Endgame.

I’ve been trying to rack my brain over why Doom would look like Tony Stark if he’s not a variant, as the Russos have stated, and I’ve come up with two possibilities.

I’m not super familiar with Franklin, but I know he’s an Omega-level mutant who can create pocket universes and has even helped recreate the multiverse in the comics. So maybe he somehow draws from the massive impact Tony’s death had on the multiverse, especially if the theory that Tony was an anchor being turns out to be true, and that somehow connects him to Stark.

Since Franklin has never met Victor before, maybe when he heals his face here, and if he can bring his mom back to life, I don’t think healing someone’s face is beyond him, his powers interact with something on a multiversal level and accidentally recreate Stark’s face on Doom.

The other possibility is that there simply isn’t a deeper reason, and they’re doing something similar to what they did with Chris Evans. A Human Torch variant just happens to look exactly like a Captain America variant for no particular reason.

But honestly, I’d find that pretty lame. I’d much rather there be an actual story reason behind Doom looking like Tony, and the Franklin theory, or something along those lines, would be pretty interesting.
