New NBA Draft piece from @JerryEngelmann:
Cameron Boozer over AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson?
Is Yaxel Lendeborg a potential difference-maker?
Yes and yes, according to this advanced metric.

RAPM for the Top NBA Draft Prospects:
Who thrived, and which top prospects struggled to make a difference for their college teams?
Plus, which small guards's defensive rating raises even more red flags?

I sat down with former Suns and Mavericks basketball analyst Jerry Engelmann (@JerryEngelmann) to break down three of our favorite prospects in the 2026 NBA Draft class.

@winston3453 I think this is a case of him turning it up in important moments.
Also, his low turnover, midrange heavy playstyle doesn't necessarily help when it comes to trashing the bad teams.
But it remains effective even when defenses get better deep into the playoffs
Jalen Brunson wanted to stay in Dallas.
Here's what @JerryEngelmann saw from the Mavs' analytics team that explains exactly how Nico Harrison let Brunson get away to the Knicks.

Awesome having @JerryEngelmann on the show to navigate the 2000s NBA for the Indiana Pacers if that night in November ‘04 had gone without incident!

"For those of us in the analytics department, the question was whether Nico had a good grasp of what made players impactful on the court (and not simply good brand ambassadors). The Brunson situation would help answer that question."
Nico Harrison: the gift that keeps on giving for Mavs fans
Jalen Brunson should still be a Maverick and not a New York Knick.
@JerryEngelmann was in the Mavs' front office during Brunson's Dallas years.
Here's the inside story of how the Mavs gifted the Knicks one of their franchise's greatest players ever.

How Wemby’s Meditation Training Could Change the NBA

Wemby is proving that meditation is the NBA's next competitive advantage.

To further contextualize Acuff's anthro measurements, I ran a query using the combine dataset since 2010 (Credit: @JerryEngelmann) which finds players with:
* Taller than 6’1” barefoot (> 73)
* Shorter than 6’3” barefoot (< 75)
* Have a plus wingspan greater 4.5'
* Have a BMI between 23 and 25 (similar physical build to Acuff)
This query gives reason to believe that despite other significant defensive concerns (discussed later), at the very least Acuff is by no means "physically incapable of defending".
2025-26 NBA All-Defensive teams:
First team: Victor Wembanyama, Chet Holmgren, Ausar Thompson, Rudy Gobert, Derrick White
Second team: Bam Adebayo, Scottie Barnes, Cason Wallace, Dyson Daniels,
OG Anunoby
Here are percentile ranks in combine test results for players of the 2026 NBA draft class
(compared to all drafted players since 2010)
Michigan's Morez Johnson ranks in the 74th percentile, or better, across the board 👀

Excited about wingspan?
I took a deep dive into historical data to determine which combine stats actually help predicting NBA impact.
Plus, which prospects helped and hurt their stock the most with their test results
