China is closing the gap quickly. But for them to reach 10× the compute of the entire rest of the world in a decade, the currently leading West would have to stop competing altogether.

The West will not choose to stop. That outcome only becomes realistic if Western civilization as we know it collapses.

TSMC itself was founded by Morris Chang, who was trained in the United States.
Its roots run straight through Stanford, Fred Terman, Shockley, Fairchild, and Intel.

The only machines capable of producing advanced nodes (EUV) come from ASML in the Netherlands. Without those Dutch machines, there is no leading-edge production.

China cannot simply seize TSMC and rebuild it 10x bigger on the mainland in a day (or a decade). The process knowledge, the talent, the equipment, and the supply chain are not portable like that.

The West already controls the chokepoints.
The United States still leads in chip design, in AI software, in high-performance computing, and in the next generation of tools. USA have far more potential ahead than the panic narrative allows.
