@JaneCampbell8 @LeedsUniCareers @UniversityLeeds@SarahinIlkley @MatthewHwrd @Karenburland Congratulations on being shortlisted! 🥳 Good luck tonight, will be rooting for you 😊
Fabulous and endlessly quotable talk by @sathpal but my two absolute favourites were "get comfortable being uncomfortable" and "celebrating who you are every now and then does you no harm" hear, hear! #datatalent
"Technology is a great career, but there isn't one right way to do it/ get into it" great summary from Adam Ellis of an insightful session from @TheDataShed Thanks Adam, George, Sarah and Barney! #DataFest23
Brilliant advice from @cyberharibu of @SenseonTech at Routes into Cyber Careers event as part of @CyberScotlandWk Much of this applies to most careers, not just cyber! 👏 #CSW2023

@NalayiniT@AGCAS It was a brilliant presentation 👏 Excellent points that resonated so much, and things I definitely needed to hear (as did many others by the look of the chat). Bravo!
All set up ready for #AGCASAC22 Looking forward to a stimulating few days hearing about excellent practise across the sector. Also my first conference in Scotland! 🏴 Trying two, unconnected, laptops...let's see how many times I forget this and get confused! 😆
@SarahinIlkley Haha yep, forefront of tech developments, me! 😄 I'm still in halls so options are limited! All good thanks. Finally had an offer accepted on a house, so excited for that! Hope all good with you?
i.e. it's hard to effectively target an application to a vague JD; this contributes to employers receiving many generic, untargeted applications.
Appreciate JDs often have to be somewhat vague as specific projects may not be known/change etc, but more detail will help all 😊2/2
Interesting research from @CareerpassN
The finding that 64% of graduates surveyed would be put off applying by unclear job descriptions resonates with a particular drum I bang.
Also think it important for employers to consider the impact of this on applications received 1/2
New research helps employers and universities engage and support this year’s graduating cohort, explains Sean Talbot from @CareerpassN.

Fab, thought-provoking presentation from @pigironjoe at #iseHE21 Can't predict the future; it is not fixed and is up for debate, but should explore. Highlighting the vital role of careers services in encouraging students to see that its contestable, complex, and open to change
And remember that core transferable skills such as communication, teamworking, problem solving and others are *vital* don't neglect or dismiss these.
Isabelle Fernandes of Avanade saying "you can train tech" they're looking for evidence of core transf. skills in rec process
Nadir Rizvi from @ibm "You are not defined by your degree" giving some specific examples of graduates who've joined them from degrees as diverse as Philosophy, Archaeology and Languages. What is important is "technical curiosity" and being willing to learn #ISEhe21
Other panellists encouraging students to develop their own skills if they're interested, via (often free) online learning. Some examples; Microsoft Learn, Forage, some funded bootcamps via DfE and more. Careers Services can support for sharing such resources #iseHE21
