I dunno. Maybe the spike in student absenteeism has to do with the fact that students’ (and teachers’) humanity is completely decentered in schools. And with accountability measures (and hence, instructional priorities) that completely ignore our world on fire.
Just added an @LambdaLiterary finalist sticker on the much-loved cover of book toddler. Soon, any copy you buy will be a little bit bedazzled. @WVUPRESS
You gotta watch this speech from Rep Justin Jones as Tennessee Republicans attempt to expel him and two others for simply standing with students demanding gun safety. Republicans know they are on the losing side of history. This is proof

We can’t keep living and dying like this. We won’t accept school shootings as normal. Organize a walkout at your school on April 5th: https://t.co/t34Zgo8PKS
Microaffirmations (Mary Rowe) are the foundation of belonging. Practice w/:

Here's to manifesting more freedom in 2023! It's been a grim year in Alabama, but the release of Henry Towns after 37 years in prison gives me some hope.

Your yearly reminder that Willie Simmons is still in prison for a $9 mugging charged as robbery. This will be his 40th Christmas spent in Alabama's violent, overcrowded prison system & lawmakers have done nothing to create a pathway out of prison for Willie and others like him.
Back to work and have 8 deaths inside Alabama prisons I am tracking that occurred in the last 6 days. All reportedly from drugs, suicide or violence. Will post confirmations as I get them. The body count inside ADOC is becoming surreal.
So I did get picked as a juror. It was a murder trial and we just found the defendant not guilty in less than 1 hr of deliberations.
He was incarcerated for 7(!!) yrs to then be exonerated in an hour. How is that justice? How is it a speedy trial? I weep for our “justice” system
The soul of our nation is sick.
Slaughter, devastation, bloodied “safe places.”
This is what happens when the right to own guns supersedes shared responsibility for community.
Mourning with Chesapeake, Charlottesville, and Colorado Springs.
Good decision, despite the gross political posturing in her statement, blaming botched execution attempts on the most powerless person, the one getting killed by the state.
This is my drum. It's my only drum, and it only has one note, but I'll be damned if I don't keep drumming it, because it's the most important note there is.
Wanting people in prison to be treated humanely, to have opportunities for rehabilitation, to be kept safe & served healthy food & to have a meaningful & fair chance at release- none of this is soft on crime. It’s called being a good human being.
Public ed is under attack and our educators and students are the casualties. Under the guise of attacking CRT they are banning books and driving good people out of the profession. We must defend public ed and recognize that when we do we are safe guarding our future.
