Many of the problems we face as a nation could be resolved if adults knew how to properly speak to kids.
ALL KIDS.
Like, even the teenagers who get mouthy.
Or the ones who dare to be born blessed with melanin.
I don’t think some people realize what middle school is like. I have students still losing teeth, others wearing makeup and fake nails. It’s WILD over here 😆🙃😭
Some of you were never too poor to have clean clothes that made you embarrassed to go to school and it shows.
Props to @JCPSSuper and @JCPSKY for doing everything they can to make a difference.
@PaulWHankins Love this for many reasons, obvs. To share a personal one: You played a Sesame Street clip as your intro the first time I met you. IUSWP Conf. 2008, I believe. ❤️
English department working in vertical alignment analyzing standards and learning targets, and giving peer feedback! Awesome work @mooremustangs @CaitMcClure @amylynnjennings@kmyers215@JCPSKY

As someone who has taught reading intervention, I’m pretty quiet on the reading wars except to say that when you use the term “war” you will end up with casualties. You’ll dehumanize. You’ll create enemies in a way that prevents dialogue.
Phonics matter. Blending matters. Stories matter. Prior knowledge matters. Helping kids fall in loving with reading matters.
I want to see kids read. I’m not interested in warfare.
