Mali is ranked 4th in NRC's list of the most neglected crises in 2023.
Yet the humanitarian needs are immense. Regional Director for @NRC_Norway@HamadouHassan is speaking from Djenné in central Mali.
Aujourd'hui, nous célébrons la #JournéeDeLEnfantAfricain
C'est l'occasion de rappeler l'importance de protéger les droits de chaque enfant et de leur garantir une éducation de qualité même dans les situations de crises.

NRC and 14 other INGOs urge the @EU_Commission to reject a shift towards transactional cooperation, and to uphold its commitments to break the cycle of humanitarian needs globally. Read more here ⬇️ https://t.co/KAaQsDGKyk
Djafar and Souleymane were on track to finish primary school and start secondary school in #Niger.
But there was a catch - to step into secondary education they needed an essential document: their birth certificates. And neither of them had one.

There has been an outstanding commitment from host communities, local authorities, NGOs & INGOs. We stay put and active in this emergency response. Our priority is to provide the most adapted assistance, as quickly as possible, to those affected by the displacement.
Additional shelters are under construction to welcome the rest of the fleeing people in the coming days. After this first phase of response, there is an urgent need to scale up funding to cover the support to livelihoods, food security, education and protection needs.
NRC is setting up, with the support of host & refugee communities, around 100 temporary shelters. Meals and multipurpose cash are provided to newly arrived asylum seekers. More food, clean water, hygiene kits and facilities are still needed, more emergency funding is needed too.
In Maradi, a region in the south of #Niger, @NRC_Norway is urgently mobilised, in cooperation with the UNHCR-@Refugees and other organisations, to assist over 1,400 people coming from Nigeria fleeing insecurity in the villages near the border.

Civilians must be protected, always.
We thank Commissioner @JanezLenarcic for his welcoming remarks today. And @eu_echo's commitment to continue its support to humanitarian engagement with AGDA. Humanitarian advocacy, diplomacy and dialogue with all parties must prevail.
The loss of civilian life to violence from armed groups is a tragedy.
That is why the work of Geneva Call is so crucial. Saving lives by promoting #IHL amongst armed groups and supporting affected local communities.
I am proud @eu_echo is @genevacall's largest financial backer.
The three actions we must all take today to support @genevacall:
➡️ Promote International Humanitarian Law, #IHL.
➡️ Build humanitarian dialogue with armed groups.
➡️ Support necessary capacity building to engage with these groups.
During times of armed conflict, International Humanitarian Law must be upheld. Parties to conflict must respect and protect civilians.
