HIE/Interoperability in a pandemic response is necessary to efficiently track & transmit data across states and borders. It is also important day to day to ensure accurate & collaborative treatment for patients among different providers. #N703#HIE
@KevinAyeCan Agreed! I think transparent and open communication between these three areas is necessary for the improvements to come to fruition. #N703#Q3
2/2 Reporting to external PSO are equally important - national data aggregation helps to identify trends and provide insight to improve IT safety. #N703#Q2
1/2 IT incident reporting is crucial to preventing future incidents. Just as reassessment of patients is necessary to nursing process, continuous feedback to IT systems is necessary to help keep systems safe. #N703#Q2
@Nicole_SFSU I agree! It's important to talk patients through all tasks to help ease tension and show that you are being present with their care. Encouraging questions/concerns is a must! #N703#HIGHTECH
Nurses can demonstrate empathy, caring, and critical awareness in "high-tech" environments by remembering the patient is priority. Practicing awareness is key; being able to constantly shift attention between the computer and patient is necessary for quality care. #N703#HIGHTECH
@AsgariAida@NursingTheoryCo@AsgariAida I agree! This is a good point. If the two areas weren't so separated I think theory would be become less ambiguous and more applicable in everyday practice. #N703
@NursingTheoryCo Nursing theory becomes less abstract when the mind is trained to learn from a different perspective. A shift from a 'memorization model' to a more understanding/discerning model of theory seems to the be the 1st step. We just need practice & opportunities to learn differently!
@AsgariAida Aida hitting me with the tough questions! π I think promoting the positive aspects of the technologies is essential...we all learn when we see the value gained from utilizing the tech. Also, maybe experimenting with gradual transitions rather than abrupt ones. #N703#W1
One of the challenges of new technologies is teaching/educating nurses who may not be as technologically proficient. Implementation of new systems (such as Epic/Cerner) can be a difficult and frustrating adjustment. #N703#W1
@LaniDee23@LaniDee23
I agree that interoperability is a major challenge among different EHR systems. This got me thinking... How do you think interoperability will affect security? Are there other challenges that might arise with a broadening network? #N703#W1
It is important for nursing informatics to acknowledge these barriers and create systems & trainings which allows for more seamless transitions. Tools such as the Epic Playground are innovative ways to combat the issue. #N703#W1
