The Medicine Hat Construction Association hosted Minister Wright and I for a roundtable discussion with many of our industry partners in the south east of Alberta.

We had insightful discussions about how to speed up construction and how industry can work together with government to deliver the critical infrastructure their communities need.

While down in southern Alberta I took a day trip to Medicine Hat to take several meetings with my colleague Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services, Minister Wright.

Built in 1919, this court house is one of Alberta’s oldest still in continuous use. This building is a prime example of the importance our government has placed on investing in capital maintenance and renewal.

Budget 2026 has over $920 million dedicated to taking care and modernizing existing buildings, so more of our buildings can last for over a century.

It's official. The $2.9 billion Yellowhead Pipeline is moving forward.

This project will create more than 2,000 construction jobs, while delivering over 1 billion cubic feet of natural gas every day to Alberta's Industrial Heartland.

By expanding the energy infrastructure our industries need to grow, the Yellowhead Pipeline will unlock $20 billion in additional industrial investment, attract new manufacturing and petrochemical projects, and create strong and lasting paycheques for Albertans.

40 years of service, one vibrant new chapter. 

Open Circle hosted their 40th Anniversary Gala which I was able to attend to honour four decades of extraordinary work supporting open shop trade workers, employers, and the broader construction sector. Revealing their sleek new logo wasn't just about a new look—it was a tribute to their enduring legacy; "founded on Merit, built on construction, and driven by members" for the decades ahead.

It was wonderful to bring back the Premier’s K-Days Pancake Breakfast at the Alberta Legislature and see more than 3,000 people come out on this beautiful Thursday morning ☀️ 🥞

I met Jordan this morning just after 5:00 when I was out for a walk in Edmonton.

He called out from across the road, “excuse me, did you lose your wallet?”

He found a wallet on the ground this morning and was walking around the neighborhood in the hopes of finding the person who lost it.

Heartwarming. Inspiring.

So good to see the good that exists in people that we seldom take the time to notice let alone acknowledge.

I asked Jordan if I could take a picture with him so I could share, just to highlight that the good that often goes unnoticed is still alive and well.

While at the Carpenters’ Regional Council Pancake Breakfast I was able to connect with NL Premier Tony Wakeham and have a productive chat about some of the successes and challenges our provinces both have when it comes to infrastructure. 

We also discussed how Alberta's success is built not only by Albertans, but also by the many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who have made Alberta their home while working in industries like the oil sands, helping build our economy.

Another major milestone in our plan to double Alberta’s oil production.

Today, Alberta, Canada, and the Oil Sands Alliance (Alberta’s 5 largest oil producers) signed a landmark agreement that clears the way for tens of billions in investment in new oilsands production and CCS projects as well as tens of thousands of jobs.

We made a commitment to get Alberta building again, remove barriers to investment, and double our energy production. Today is another major step toward delivering on that promise.
