Protecting your unhealthy patterns and habits is often a trauma response.
You keep doing what’s familiar because it regulates your nervous system even if it’s costing you everything.
The drinking. The people pleasing. The isolation. The overworking. The emotional shutdown.
Here’s me a few months sober.
Watching television with my mother, eating Tony’s Pizza w/ Sparky on my shoulder.
This was over 20 years ago.
Time has flown by. When I look at this photo I remember how far I’ve come.
Ask for help. Regulate and co-regulate. God bless. ❤️🔥
Are you resisting what will help you to grow and feel joy?
Have compassion today towards yourself and allow the resistance to be there.
Start with one action that will help you feel regulated.
Stay close to the people who will remind you of this.

Thank you to all the men and women for your service on this Memorial Day! ❤️🔥
This is a reminder to stop waiting to make a change that will help set you free.
Check in with your body, mind, and spirit.
Ask for help.
The mind is a great servant, but no master.
Being able to regulate your nervous system and stay present, enables you to notice your thoughts without reacting to them.
The ability to pause before reacting.
That’s the true game.

This is one of my favorite quotes from @johncmaxwell.
Everyday we get to make a choice to work on ourselves and our own personal development.
The work you do on yourself ripples out into your relationships and people you encounter.
Today, help another person by working you.
A step forward is a confidence builder.
Staying present in your body helps you to truly feel connected to your progress.
How do you measure your progress?

If you've been doing a habit every day to survive for most of your life, don't expect to change overnight.
Even if it's a habit that you don't enjoy but somehow find relief, you're not crazy.
We often go through phases in our life where we pick up habits that are no good.
Discipline is not easy.
Especially when you're trying to dedicate yourself to a practice or a daily ritual that you know is good for you.
If you promise yourself that you would do something every day for the next week, two weeks, month, or year, do it for yourself.
About 10 years ago, I experienced this peak experience of graduating with my master's in clinical mental health counseling.
Becoming a psychotherapist has been a life-changing experience.
If you're struggling today and wondering if you should keep going.

I know people say the percentage of sensitive people on earth is low.
But from my experience, many people are being hard on the surface, but they're actually sensitive souls.
If you're a highly sensitive person, welcome.
Being a highly sensitive person is a superpower.
You hear the cliche all the time: "health is wealth."
It's the truth.
Twenty years ago I learned about reading food labels to know the truth about what they're putting in our foods. Learning that has been life-changing over the last two decades.
Your health is your number 1
Today’s my 43rd birthday. 🥳 And on today’s episode, I share a very personal story about getting burned while cooking, what the last few days of healing have looked like for me, and what this experience is revealing about recovery, aging, and asking for help.

Celebrating 20 Years without Alcohol.
I reflect on 20 years without alcohol and my personal perspective on trauma, nervous system regulation, and why addiction is not a moral failure.
