I’m excited to announce I’ve joined @TheAthletic and will be covering the Kansas City Chiefs, starting today. Can’t wait to get started with the nation’s top sports newsroom — while joining a bunch of talented writers I’ve admired for a long time.
The Chiefs training camp schedule is out!
The first practice open to the general public is on July 30 (following an STM exclusive day on July 29). Sixteen practices will be open to the general public over the course of camp.
Reserve your tickets on the Chiefs' website!
Trade: The Kansas City Chiefs are dealing OT Wanya Morris to the Atlanta Falcons, per sources.
Morris, who started 16 games for Chiefs, gives Atlanta much-needed tackle help.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid, when asked about UDFA RT Kahlil Benson by @pgsween, said Benson was athletic while displaying good feet with strong hands. "Look forward to seeing him in pads," Reid said. " ... He's been able to handle everything, and we'll see where it goes."
CB L'Jarius Sneed's 1-year, contract to rejoin the #Chiefs comes with a base value of $1.2M
Sneed can earn another $3.8M on the deal based on incentives.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid, during an interview with Mitch Holthus broadcast to fans during today's practice, was asked about the RT competition and said that UDFA Kahlil Benson was "another one that has a chance at that spot." Reid spoke about Moore, Pole, and Chu before that.
Few notes from Chiefs minicamp practice Tuesday:
• Patrick Mahomes continued to participate in 7-on-7s but not team drills. Much like last week at OTAs.
• Rookie CB Mansoor Delane had no helmet and did not participate. We'll talk with Andy Reid again Thursday.
• Another name to watch in RT battle during training camp: Indiana UDFA Kahlil Benson.
• CB Nohl Williams had a PBU and INT during drills.
• WR Andrew Armstrong had sideline TD catch that drew sideline shoutout from Mahomes. Another WR to watch come training camp.
Just back from Chiefs minicamp practice open to reporters. A few notes from today:
• CB Mansoor Delane was without a helmet for a second straight day and didn't participate in drills. We'll get an update from coach Andy Reid tomorrow.
• RB Ken Walker had one of the top highlights, beating CB Kristian Fulton around the edge with his speed for a long TD run down the sideline.
• WR Jalen Royals had a couple red-zone TDs late, including a tough snag in traffic that got a, "Good catch, eleven!" shoutout from QB Patrick Mahomes on the sideline.
