Dickin Around in the Bush 🌳

Big old boab out near Derby. Reckon it's the only thing out here with a bigger gut than me after a week of camp snags.

Mine's from sausages. Its is from storing water. We both call it planning ahead.

Bumper had a disagreement with a roo outside Fitzroy Crossing. Roo hopped off fine. Bumper did not. 🦘

Plastic Welder hot-staples cracked bumpers and tail lights back together. Cheaper than the panel beater.

$98.95, ships from Australia.

Dickin Around in the Bush 🔥

Steak on the coals, sausages for moral support. Tried cooking by phone torch — nearly served medium-rare fingers.

Turns out the only thing that should be hands-free out bush is the head torch.

Motion-sensor head torch, $30.95: https://t.co/1LbaIHuNrm

Dickin Around in the Bush 🌅

Found the Kimberley's only roundabout. One tree, a lot of red dirt and zero traffic.

Still indicated. Went round three times to be sure. Tree never gave way once.

Dickin Around in the Bush 🌙

Left the light bar on "for five minutes" out near Blina–Lennard. Lit up half the Kimberley. Battery's now flatter than the Nullarbor.

Turns out the light bar's bright. I'm not.

Smart charger's going on the list: https://t.co/1GSLj100fB

Kimberley sunrise hits the swag at 5am like a road train on high beam. 🌅

Travel Sleep Eye Mask buys you another hour of kip in the tent, the swag or the back of the ute. Won't stop the crows, mind.

$22.95, ships from Australia.

Gibb River Road, drawers out, kettle on.

People ask how I stay so organised out bush. Easy — I leave the mess at home. 😂

Bought a bottle jack thinking it'd open my stubbies. Doesn't do beer at all... but it still lifted my spirits. And the ute. 🍺

10 tonne, handles a loaded 4WD for a tyre change on the corrugations. $102.95, ships from Australia.

Set up the office out bush tonight.

Boss rang asking if I'm working remotely. Mate, it doesn't get more remote than this. 😂

Keep the camp office charged with a 12V switch panel + USB, $73.95: https://t.co/sIDYBevhAp

Kings fridge humming away in the canopy, battery box right beside it.

Asked the fridge how it stays so chill out bush. Reckons it's all about having a good battery behind you. 😂

Camp's up after dark, awning lights on, dinner on the coals.

Asked the awning how it copes with the wind out here. Reckons it just tries to stay grounded. 😂

Sand pegs that actually hold in soft red dirt, 10 for $30.95: https://t.co/LQsVTrZRwV

Under the old boab near Derby at dusk. Tried to give it a hug.

Bit like hugging my uncle: wide, wrinkly, and all bark. 🌳😂

Told my flat tyre to cheer up. Didn't work, so I gave it a proper pep talk instead... 36 PSI of encouragement. 🛞

Air down for the sand, back up for the bitumen, no servo needed. Digital gauge, 150 PSI. $83.95, ships from Australia.

Snags and a kettle on the ute cooktop, Gibb dust still on the boots.

Asked the snags how the trip was going. They said “pretty rare so far — keep us cold till the board’s ready.” 😂

Bacon sizzling on the Gasmate off the back of the ute, middle of nowhere.

Asked the bacon why it's always so happy out bush. Reckons it's just living its best life, cured of all worries. 🥓

Missus said I'm sleeping in the car tonight. Joke's on her, I brought the mattress 😎

Inflatable back seat mattress turns the ute or SUV into a swag on wheels, no rocks in the ribs. $97.95, ships from Australia.

Gibb River Road at dusk. Red dirt, pink sky, zero reception.

Asked the corrugations how far to camp. They just kept shaking their head 😂

Offline maps stayed put on the dash with this magnetic mount: https://t.co/dpc0hPBm3n

Pulled up at dusk, sign says Culture Centre 3km up the Gibb River Road.

Told the missus I'd finally get some culture. She reckons there's already plenty growing on the cheese in the esky. 🧀😂
