We spent 24 hours at San Francisco’s worst drug corner.
Filming this story took creativity, late nights and early mornings, and probably a year off my life when two dealers spotted me watching them.
See what I captured below.
San Francisco is on track to set a record for fatal drug overdoses this year, and the intersection of Seventh and Market Streets at U.N. Plaza has become an epicenter of the drug crisis—and a physical representation of the political battles playing out at City Hall. (1/12)
Dozens of elderly residents will lose their homes when St. Anne's Home, a 124-year-old SF nursing facility, closes this spring. The closure means 59 elderly residents with limited financial resources must find new places to live.

In collaboration with @nytimes, the @sfstandard poured through data and found that a generation of Black men are dying of overdoses in San Francisco. @davidfortheppl @allaboutgeorge and @NoahBaustin report that the national trend is worst in SF https://t.co/dmIbBz15IX
The overdose crisis has been particularly devastating for a single generation of Black men, and nowhere have the effects been more extreme than in San Francisco. @davidfortheppl @NoahBaustin and @allaboutgeorge unpack the factors. https://t.co/KSj2oCYsKD
NEW: Mario Rogers was 1 of 410 Black men of his generation—born 1951-1970—to die of a drug overdose in San Francisco from 2020 to Oct. 2024.
These men died at a higher rate than any other US demographic, according to an investigation by @sfstandard, @BaltimoreBanner & @nytimes
Black men born from 1951 to 1970 have represented 12% of all overdose deaths in SF in the past four years, but are less than 1% of the population. That makes them 32 times more likely to die of an overdose than the average American. @sfstandard https://t.co/QGGAi9IT0C
Stop what you are doing and read this devastatingly important article from @davidfortheppl @NoahBaustin and George Kelly.
SF is losing a generation of Black men to overdoses. It’s worse here than anywhere

SF once raided pinball joints like speakeasies. Now there's a 2yr waitlist to play in a print shop basement while crushing PBRs

The number two headliner was two world champion female boxers slugging their hearts out, and the end we get this travesty.
I’d be so embarrassed if I was in this fight.
