@KernCMC @Mathgarden The purpose of education and schooling is to help our students do the best they can. It's not about the grades they are getting but that they are doing the best they can. The purpose also is to make sure they are safe and well while they are learning and their minds are growing.

@KernCMC @Mathgarden These practices do not create a positive environment. When students learn that their grades curved then they will get the thought that they do not need to try as hard because their grade will be curved. Instead students should learn that they are learning and not failing.

It makes them feel they dont need to try as hard because they know at the end their grade could be curved and that does not teach them much. You are correct as well that they need to know they are learning and not failing.

I never thought about just stepping away once given a math problem until reading it in the book. It does allow for the sense of independence and gives the students a change to gain more patience towards math.

@KernCMC @Mathgarden Math can help shape the person we become through patience. Patience is a big part of math. Through solving math problems a person can learn patience due to how long and concentrated it takes to just solve a math problem. It can allow for the person to be creative in how it solved

@KernCMC @Mathgarden Some math games that could be used are dominoes or dice. Some games that can be played for math could be uno, guess my number, four in a row and even a math bingo. These games make it fun for the students to grow their brain while doing math and make them want to play more

@KernCMC We need to be able to show everyone just how important math is to our daily lives. If we can show people how important it is and how it connects to things we do on a daily basis then people might be more interested in trying math out.
