Principal turnover (much like teacher turnover) impacts student achievement. Knowing this creates a responsibility to hire and retain quality principals. Our kids success is literally dependent on it. #GSUEdLead
I never considered the impact that principals have on school attendance. "Students in a school with a principal who is above average... go to school approximately 1.4 days than do students whose principal is below average. Good leaders matter. #GSUEdLead
@w_jankovic Principal turnover is becoming much more common. I'm glad to see a local district creating intentional opportunity to overcome this barrier. I wish others would do the same.
@MsBenefield We often consider the impact that teacher effectiveness has on student achievement but not so often the impact of principals. Perhaps this should be more of a focus if student learning and achievement is truly our goal. Thanks for this info.
"Public school principals have become more racially and ethnically diverse, but changes in their demographic characteristics have not kept up with changes among students." School leadership diversity should reflect the diversity among our schools as well. #GSUEdLead

@CatieSimpson47 Hi Catie! I am a MS educator and and aspiring MS school leader! I'm also interested in teacher retention, specifically novice teacher retention. I will have to check out your book rec! Nice to meet you.
@MrHines_IST Hi Darrell! I am famliar with this book but I haven't read it from front to cover! Thank you for the work you do! There is a lot of sacrifice in education and yours is appreciated!
Hi! I’m a 6th grade educator in Atlanta, GA. I am interested in novice teacher retention and one of my greatest lessons that influence my approach to leadership is that feedback is love. We won’t get better by not receiving and or offering feedback to and from others. #GSUEdLead
@EbonyBetts99 I agree with this whole-heartedly Ebony! I have worked for leaders who lead in this manner and it made ALL the difference. Knowing that they cared for me beyond what I could contribute to the organization increased my motivation and effort significantly.
Leaders' Smart Decisions Daily video on the Dark Side of Workplace Incentives reminded me that rewarding good behavior can sometimes disrupt the pure motivation to do well just because it is right. #GSUEdLead
@PuckettEar97853 I agree wholeheartedly! Some people are confidently clueless! Truth and being right matters just as much if not more than being confident.
@MissRogersTeach@kbrezicha It can go such a long way when a leader is willing to own a gap. Ignoring a problem never made it go away! I love that you lead in this manner.
Leaders' Smart Decisions Daily video on the Leadership Litmus Test was a needed reminder that leaders should be willing to make sacrifices for the good of the team. We need more servant leaders in the field of educational leadership. #GSUEdLead
@DrSharonLSmith This is great advice! I find it so necessary to spend time unplugged from work during the weekend. I am always amazed at the amount of decisions I make as an educator. Our brains need a break.
