@lovedoveclarke Customs guy in the Netherlands asked me the purpose of my visit. I said "I'm here on my honeymoon!" Guy gave me THE most critical look & said "You come to Netherlands... for honeymoon." I said yes. He raised his eyebrows, shrugged and said "Ok..." while he stamped my passport 😂
There are moments—quiet, stolen ones—where it hits me:
We’re living in a mass casualty event that never ended.
We just stopped counting the bodies.
Stopped caring who got sick.
Stopped asking who never got better
@DebHolloway to my grieving father trying to raise their three kids alone "If she would just have gotten her Pap smears done..." (though those don't even relate to the cancer she had)... Anyway, no real point here. Just solidarity. It's a crappy attitude and it sucks how many people have it.
@DebHolloway I understand completely. Unfortunately there's a lot of this blaming attitude with all illnesses, I think. I'm a Type 1 diabetic and have been hearing it/having to fight misinformation of this sort about T1D for 27 years. My mum died of genetic ovarian cancer and people would say
@StandingHannah I hear you. I spent a while yesterday looking into my own options in regards to British citizenship. It's complicated and I'm still unsure what my options are exactly, but my husband is terrified about what will happen to me as things are here...
@stevenchase 🤦♀️
I remember hopping back and forth over the line on the Rainbow Bridge (in Niagara Falls) with my friends, but 1-- it wasn't malicious; 2-- I was 8; and 3-- we were imitating Homer Simpson
@EM_RESUS I have no medical qualifications, this is just something I've known for ages and it drives me crazy too. I don't even know why I know it. I'm guessing it's thanks to my mum. She died when I was little and I don't remember her well, but some of the stuff she taught me stuck!
@Meaning_in_All@MeetJess If it's the same efficacy as the current ones, it would at least be a bit of a different option, which could encourage some people (eg, people with a fear of needles)!
Happy National Girls & Women in Sports Day! We’re proud to acknowledge the success and accomplishments of female athletes and recognize the influence women and girls have in sports. 💙
This! At least these ppl can now get the pot/pan if they can find it. We planned carefully and were on track for a full card by the end of the program, but our local @LoblawsON stores stopped giving out stamps 3 weeks early (and didn't mention til we asked after paying, ofc) 😡
@chronicallybeee Congratulations and best wishes! Some people say rain on your wedding day is good luck/represents blessings raining down on your marriage. I hope you have a great day, with an even better married life to follow ❤️
We do a version of this in Canada too (A bit diff. Some ppl know %s and figure out final prices). I remember my first trip to Europe, asking my friend living there what % the tax was. He didn't know... Eventually someone said "It doesn't matter, all their prices are tax in" 🤯
9. The sales tax surprise
The price tag never shows what you'll actually pay.
That $9.99 item?
You won't know the real cost until you're at the register.
This hidden tax system would be unthinkable in many countries where what you see is what you pay.
@TRyanGregory When I was diagnosed as T1D in the 90s, they were saying that it was a genetic thing that was probably triggered by a viral illness ("like a cold or flu")... It's not really a new idea that viruses can do things like that 🤷♀️
