This week, Cicero District 99 proudly celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week, a time to recognize the incredible work, passion, and heart that or educators pour into every single day.

Every day, before the bell rings, teachers are already thinking about your child:

📚 Crafting engaging lessons
🧠 Differentiating instruction for 25+ unique learning needs
📝 Grading assignments late into the night
💡 Finding creative ways to spark curiosity
❤️ Supporting students through challenges—academic, emotional, and personal

They're counselors when a student walks in with heavy eyes. They're coaches when confidence is running low. They're cheerleaders when a student finally "gets it." They're lifelong learners constantly adapting to new methods, technologies, and standards. They are defenders of potential — sometimes believing in students even before they believe in themselves.

And when the day ends? They plan, call parents, collaborate with colleagues, mentor new teachers, and attend meetings — all while thinking about how to do it even better tomorrow. It's not just a job. It's an act of love repeated daily.

👏 This week, and every week, we say: "Thank you for showing up, for standing in the gap, and for being role models, advocates, and dream igniters." What would we do without teachers? We don't even want to imagine it!

Through this one-of-a-kind cultural collaboration, Cicero students met virtually with peers from Jesus Maria Centros Educativos in Valencia to learn about the world-famous Fallas Festival, a vibrant celebration featuring incredible handmade sculptures, fireworks and parades honoring St. Joseph. Meanwhile, students in Valencia were exploring St. Patrick's Day in the U.S., diving into Irish culture just as our students were embracing the traditions of Spain.

🌍 D99 HUSBAND & WIFE TEACHER DUO BRING SPANISH, AMERICAN CULTURE TOGETHER IN THE MOST FASCINATING WAY 💙

Something truly special happened in Cicero District 99! Carlos Gil (fifth grade Dual Language teacher at Wilson) and Gema Villarino (Kindergarten Dual Language teacher at Goodwin) — who also happen to be husband and wife — brought an international learning experience to life, connecting our students with classrooms all the way in their hometown of Valencia, Spain!

At Wilson, Gil's fifth graders engaged in interactive sessions with students in Valencia, while at Goodwin, Villarino led fun arts and crafts projected inspired by Fallas. The result? A beautiful exchange of traditions, learning and global friendship!

👏 This is what education is all about — breaking barriers, fostering curiosity and celebrating diversity. Let's give a HUGE round of applause to these amazing educators for making the world feel a little smaller and a lot more connected!
