Matthias & Maxime (2019) is a French-Canadian drama about two childhood best friends in their late 20s whose bond is tested when they are asked to kiss for a student film.
The forced, intimate act sparks long-suppressed feelings and causes immense tension, forcing them to re-evaluate their sexualities, friendship, and futures just before one of them moves to Australia

I just finished watching Love in the Big City and there’s this scene where his mom who knew he liked boys since he was younger would come into his room every night to pray and cast out spirit of gay . According to the movie , his mom thought the prayers were working because his best friend was a girl.
Then there’s this scene where she comes in as usual to pray and cast out the spirit of him being gay, and he says, ‘Mom, I’m in love with a man.’ That part gave me chills. I had to pause the movie, lie down, stare at the ceiling, and really think about it. It felt like something a typical African mom would do.
It made me wonder… do people actually think you can pray away being gay or LGBTQ? 🤔
