@lovelyemy6 Could this be a result of higher amounts of toxins contained in cheaper building and furniture supplies? This is the first thing that comes to mind. Requiring manufacturers to cease the use of certain chemicals like formaldehyde in rugs and mattresses might be a start.

@matejczyka Great question. I think enforcing parents to vaccinate their children would be extremely unpopular in the United States, but so too was the initial reaction to mandatory seatbelt-wearing and enforcing all public buildings to be non-smoking. It's worth a try!

@sdralph2 This article makes several valid points. It is difficult to separate the perceived "reward" of payment for services rendered. This is how every other business operates; higher productivity=greater revenues. Can this system be changed? I know of no simple solutions.

This is great information. Thank you for sharing. A patient was telling me a story of how his octogenarian parents were coerced into buying a new vehicle at a car dealership when all they really needed was a reliable used vehicle. My patient identified this as elder abuse.
