I wish that the gender gap in occupations surprised me, but it didn't. While it is more socially acceptable for women to become engineers nowadays, the field is so dominated by men that women may feel out of place. The same thing may happen with men who become nurses. #cmn432

#cmn432 Even if people take power back from terms such as "fag" or "slut," the meaning of the word is completely different depending on who it comes from. If a random stranger called me those words out of hate, we revert back to the historical, negative definition of the word.

This TED Talk has always stuck with me because it really shows how we learn gender by observing others and from our childhood. Men are always taught to be masculine, because they get picked on if they're too "soft."

I remember watching Love, Simon and thinking how difficult it is for people to come out to their families/friends. I found myself feeling grateful that I was not gay because I did have to come out to my family. That is a privilege that I am granted due to societal norms. #CMN432
