To mark Melbourne Cup day in 1942, prisoners at the Sandakan POW camp held a 'race' with the winner awarded this makeshift 'Melbourne Cup'. The cup was awarded again the following year, this time at the Batu Lintang prisoner of war camp at Kuching in Sarawak.
Their job is… records.
Like Rebecca Sharp, who works as an archivist at the National Archives. Her words of advice? Ask an archival reference staff member for research guidance, slow down and take the time, and stay flexible to various research topics.
