In this article, my co-authors and I have analysed the implementation of publicly-accessible #greenspaces in two #densification projects, one in #Utrecht (the Netherlands) and one in #Biel (Switzerland).

In #dense cities, ensuring publicly-accessible green spaces in densification led by private actors requires not only strategic action by planners but also ongoing monitoring of enforcement and compliance in the post-planning phase, and an appropriate open design. #urbangreening

Analysing the implementation of densification projects as a negotiation of public and private interests, we show how planners combine public- and private-law instruments to impose planning goals while simultaneously safeguarding the interests of developers and investors.
📢New publication on the trade-off between urban densification and public green space: Public authority has to continue monitoring property rights to avoid enclosure that serves the private interests to ensure public access to urban green 🌲 #openaccess https://t.co/EHxyAAn2AC
Yesterday I attended a public talk with #Bern's new city #planner. From the very challenging location of the train station 🚈 to recent #densification projects 🏙️ and urban climate 🌳 "Today we wouldn't plan it like that anymore" applies quite often #UrbanPlanning@Bern_Stadt
I have spent the past 3 days in the European Parliament for the #BeyondGrowth2023 conference. Here are some of my main takeaways (as a Global South, feminist, decolonial, ecosocialist, social scientist).
Diversity is what makes a city. In #NewYork I found an incredible human diversity, but also - surprisingly - quite some #biodiversity 🌳🐝 as I learned, #CentralPark is even home to one of the main #birdwatching hotspots in the US. 🦜🦇🐀🐢
Chicago and its beautiful #artdeco#architecture. It blew my mind. The history of this city + all the life happening in its streets, its metro cars and its buildings today is hard to grasp. What a city! #Chicago
We had a fantastic week at the PLPR conference at @UMich in #AnnArbor this week. Full of inspiring discussions on the role of #planning, #legal instruments across countries, and the implications of #property rights for #SocialJustice. 🙏 #PLPR2023 https://t.co/lEzjZ89xZe

A beautiful Autumn 🍂 day in the #Schützenmatt Park in #Basel. This genious design of a moveable chair that can also be used as mini-desk for getting some work done while surrounded by green just made my day. #BaslerParkStuhl
"Para o Movimento Referendo pela Habitação, “os imóveis com autorização de utilização para habitação devem cumprir a sua função social: serem habitados”."
Independentemente do resultado, a organização de um referendo é um ótimo meio para lançar o debate 👏 #Lisboa#Housing
Um grupo de cidadãos vai tentar reunir cinco mil assinaturas para realizar o primeiro referendo local da cidade.
O objetivo é impedir que possa existir Alojamento Local em prédios com licença para uso habitacional. 🏡

In #Bern a citizen initiative was accepted, demanding that 0.5% of public streets become unsealed and greened each year until 2032. +1% to be transformed into climate-adapted public spaces. If accepted by referendum, the city will be obliged to implement. #GreenYourCity 🌱🌿🌻
