You might wonder how a butterfly that pupates in a leaf nest gets out of said leaf nest as a brand new butterfly....... Mottled Duskywing larvae make an exit hole before they pupate! #teambutterfly
#teambutterfly has officially started their annual monitoring program @PineryProvPark where we reintroduced Mottled Duskywing in 2021! All males flying today- they are always first and will establish territories while they await female emergence!
#teambutterfly is back in action! Today we took over 600 endangered mottled duskywing larvae out of an environmental chamber to "wake them up". It's spring guys! Time to pupate! They are destined to repopulate formally occupied areas in Ontario.
Job Alert! Are you an Indigenous student looking to gain experience in terrestrial ecology? NRSI is looking to hire a field assistant for a turtle tracking program!
Last week #teambutterfly visited the McGuire Centre for Lepidoptera and @JCDanielsLab to learn more about their Frosted Elfin butterfly rearing & breeding program. This species has been extirpated from Ontario since the late 1980s and we hope it will be our next success story!
Biologist @RyanNorrisSci (@uofg) used to believe “science takes part but shouldn't take sides.” Now he’s urging peers to protest not only Highway 413 but also threats to nature more broadly. — by Gideon Forman (@DavidSuzukiFDN) #onpoli https://t.co/2MRu4Prhf3
@nrsinews staff donated a total of $14k+ across 80+ charities today and NRSI matched it with $16k: we gave $5k to Better Tent City (ON), $6k to Mustard Seed (AB) and $5k to Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources. $30k+ for a company of 100 employees 🙌 #GivingTuesday

Big news for NRSI! I'm proud to work for a company that is now 100% Indigenous owned & has built a strong reputation in the environmental consulting industry & scientific community. The species at risk work I do would not have been possible without NRSIs support over the years.
