When I did my BSc I swore I would never do another degree.
5 years later I've completed my MSc in Advanced Occupational Therapy with a distinction! Doing this degree whilst working full time has been one of the most challenging things I've ever done!
What next then? ๐ค๐ค๐ค
Rishi Sunak today announced plans to review the fit note system for people who arenโt well enough to work, with a focus on mental health.
His speech continues a trend in recent rhetoric that is stigmatising, harmful, and inaccurate.
@Keirwales I thought particularly about stigmatising beliefs that were installed in me early on in my career working on acute wards about people with 'personality disorders' and how the cultures I worked in perpetuated this.
Very late to it but finally finding some time today to catch up on watching the Elizabeth Casson Lecture. Wonderful job @Keirwales , very thought provoking stuff!
โMy daughter was locked in a room for 551 days.โ
WARNING: distressing themes. @C4Dispatches investigates why thousands of autistic people are being locked up in hospitals. We follow Dannielle who has been an inpatient for 13 years.
A quote from Sarah Graham's 'Rebel Bodies' that I feel is important to share- "Any bad care you receive is never your fault. It's not because you didn't try hard enough, didn't get enough second opinions or didn't make enough complaints; it's because the system has failed you."
Spotted this in my local bookstore on the weekend and so had to pick myself up a copy after seeing really good things about it online. Excited to get stuck in to it #rebelbodies

@Keirwales ... and instead supporting people to have quality of life in the community. It's a work in progress but always looking for people to link in with ๐
@Keirwales Always happy to link in on this or please let me know if you do come across any strategy groups! I've been working on trying to identify criteria for our ICB on what "specialist" PD units need to provide to call themselves "specialist" and also in reducing our use of these units
Some days I feel like I know what I'm doing in the gym, other days (today) I drop a 10kg dumbbell on myself, (narrowly missing my face) and James has to pick it up off of me. Sure there's a life lesson in there somewhere...
This week has been really hard and I'm so glad for it to be done.
But super excitingly, next week I start my 6 month course in trauma informed care for people with learning disabilities or autism!
Most people listen to music in the gym... I listen to a 'personality disorder' podcast! Very good workout listening I must admit!
