@KT_NRE Great question, thank you! I think looking at religion and spirituality are key to discovering who we are as human beings, whether we're religious or not. So I used it as a way for Aden to discover more of herself and her deceased mother. #2K18books
@rlynn_solomon <3 thank you @rlynn_solomon ! Lauren Oliver was a game changer for me--her voice is at once lyrical and natural and I can't get enough of her writing. I'm also fully obsessed with Jandy Nelson-@jandynelson. I read and re-read these authors to get better. #2K18books
@atrueblood5 Love this question, @atrueblood5, thank you! I totally have an Aden-Tate Spotify play list that includes the Shins, Kings of Leon, and some other badass artists. Listened to it over and over again :). #2K18books
@Missrithenay Thank you! Yes, it's been said that CALC tackles so many "issues." To me it was just writing what it is to be human in the day-to-day. We can't really control all the stuff we're dealing with at any one time. And some times it's a lot and all at once! #2K18books
@AdrianneFinlay#2k18books Part 2: Seriously though, the feelings of being a teen are really microcosms or maybe macro (because the feels are BIG) of being human. So some of that not-knowing and transition that comes with being a teen is present for me as an adult.
@KdeVosAuthor I think writing in the first person helped! The truth is that in real relationships, we can't know what people are experiencing--sometimes even when they share it. So it was fun to play with Aden's head space and her reality. Maybe I'm just a little too similar to her ;)
