@GemAofGB Unakite, discovered in the Unaka mountain range of North Carolina. The epidote forms due to metasomatism of the plagioclase feldspar in the precursor.

Cunningly disguised as a ‘witch bottle’ today at Hidden Charms 4. This mornings talks on witch bottles, witch posts, Clog almanacs and the like were most entertaining. Looking forwards to mummified cats this afternoon.

These rare Victorian brooches bear the 1891 jet trademark. No.A.1 represents Genuine Hard Whitby jet; No.1 represents Foreign Hard Jet; No.2 is Soft Jet. If only the Romans had done this my life would be so much easier!

@archaeojapery @pitheadbaths The spacer plates are usually jet, even if the other beads are other species. If not jet, it is much more likely to be an oil shale than cannel coal. I’m happy to identify the species if you aren’t sure
