@_leeescobedo Just saw your article. Didn't realize you wrote an article to answer the question. Responded there.
Don't take it as criticism. Take it as we need to level set decision criteria for best PG before a rational debate.
Great read, Lee. Your article's decision criteria for Greatest PG includes:
+ clutch shooting
+ Playoff PPG
+ his team's point differential
It does not include:
- assists (or assist to turnover ratio)
- defense
Put JB up there with MJ and Kobe for clutch and toughness - absolutely. That's a big statement and it's warranted.
Debating top PGs of all time requires a debate about the decision criteria first.
Why does anyone care about the opinions of 3 underachievers who didn't put in the work to achieve their potential. Lin - that's fair.
Try asking Shaq, Horry or Artest. Or Pau. Or Adam Morrison. Or Brunson and 1/2 of today's NBA who cite him as their role model.
PS - The sample set on Wemby is all we have to work with. My main point is wait before you coronate. Wemby ain't ready yet. Yet. As an NBA fan, I hope (and expect) he matures.
Cheers
@DigestHoops@MarcNYY618@SpursReporter That's a fair comment @digesthoops!
I'm I'm a Spur fan who loved Duncan, I'd struggle to be excited about what Wemby showed.
You're right - a villain is a villain.
@barberjgray@SpursReporter As their captain, for sure.
Curious to see the leadership dynamics in that leadership room.
No way in hell that the locker room respects Wemby as a baller. just as bad as the 80s Pistons.
@_illmatic22@SpursReporter I don't disagree with you.
Mitch should have seen that and given Dylan a chance to run the team.
That said, that missed layup would be killing me if I was a Spur fan.
@MarcNYY618@SpursReporter Likewise. Loved the Knicks in the 90s and MJ/Reggie killed us and let us know. And I respected them.
Unlike Wemby, they did not:
1) Disrespect the game
2) Celebrate anything other than outcomes
3) Display bad sportsmanship
@DigitalLoco@SpursReporter Please tell me more about Kobe's horrible sportsmanship.
PS - I scouted Kobe when he was in HS.
PPS - Go ask his teammates about how good of a teammate he was.
PPPS - All superstars have massive egos. They balance it with humility.
@_leeescobedo Dude - I've appreciated you the past 2 weeks.
You're either too focused on clicks or lack historical basketball context. Peace, brother, I'm out.
Wish Granted, Spur Fans. Mind > Matter
@spurs@NBA Wemby lacks sportsmanship and humility.
Making him the face before his potential is realized will have consequences on long term revenues. The game's integrity is not worth the short-term intl revenue bump.
A request from someone who scouted Kobe when he was in HS:
I believe a shareable parenting lesson is a profound untold story here. Specifically, teaching your kid to dream big, turn the dream into a plan, and work tirelessly on the plan and turn dream into reality.
From a scouting perspecive, Jalen is all immeasurables, with little measurables. I saw the immeasurables in Kobe and set that as my personal model. I see so much similarity in your nephew, and believe the story would be helpful to so many.
Let's face it: the reason everyone doubted Jalen is that you can not see into one's heart and mind. And one can not understand something that they do not have (eg becky hammon). And fish are always the last to know there's water (Do Rick and Jalen even realize what is different about them from 99% of the planet)?
I may be wrong - but if I'm not would love to chat. And if I am wrong, congratulations. You and your family deserve this as much as anyone who has hit this level. Enjoy!
